Zum Fassl — Restaurant in Berchtesgaden

We visited the restaurant “Zum Fassl” at Alpenhotel Kronprinz with a large group (12 adults plus children). When making the reservation, we clearly informed the staff about our group size and specifically requested a high chair for a toddler. Unfortunately, upon arrival, no high chair was available – a clear sign that our reservation details had not been taken seriously.

Despite the size of our group, we were seated at a table that was far too small. It was immediately obvious that there was not nearly enough space for 13 people. The setup was cramped, uncomfortable, and far from welcoming – not a good start to the evening.

The wait for food was over 1¼ hours – which is especially difficult when dining with children. When the food finally arrived, the situation turned chaotic. Two servers began handing out dishes simultaneously, but neither seemed to know what they were actually serving. Although everyone in our group knew exactly what they had ordered, the waiter was completely unable to match meals with the correct guests.

One server stood out for all the wrong reasons: they slammed a plate down on the table and said, “I have other guests, too,” in a visibly irritated and rude tone. Such a disrespectful attitude is unacceptable in a restaurant of this supposed standard.

To make matters worse, one meal was completely forgotten and only arrived about 30 minutes later – with no apology or explanation. Custom requests, like “no onions” or “no sauce,” were simply ignored, showing a lack of attention both in the kitchen and in the service.

As for the food itself – it was underwhelming. For a place that seemingly specializes in burgers, we had expected much better. The dishes were bland, uninspired, and carelessly presented – far from what one would expect from a decent burger restaurant today.

Bottom line: Our visit to “Zum Fassl” was a thoroughly disappointing experience. Disorganized and inattentive service, long wait times, ignored requests, and food that failed to deliver – unfortunately, we will not be returning and cannot recommend this restaurant in its current state.

I ordered a steak burger with sweet potato. Everything was fine untill we tried the sweet potato. It tasted bitter and sour, I often cook with sweet potato so i know how it's tastes. After a quick google search i found the answer: "Why does my sweet potato taste bitter? When exposed to light, potatoes manufacture increasing amounts of chlorophyll as well as two bitter-tasting alkaloid compounds, solanine and chaconine. In high concentrations, these can not only make potatoes taste bitter but also can cause headaches and stomachaches." I eat 1/4 of it. We let the waitress lady to know that it's not good, that they don't serve it to others. She brought to the kitchen the sweet potato the chef let us know that it is good and fresh. The waitress lady seems really stressed and offered us a short drink, what we didn't take, we don't drink alcohol. After that we paid and left. Ich bin regelmäßig als Einheimischer hier zum Essen gegangen. Gründe waren die Burger die sicherlich die besten in Berchtesgaden waren. Immer frisch und lecker. Die Art und Weise wie diese serviert wurden war einfach super. Eine gute Auswahl auch die Größe war wählbar. Heute bin ich nach längerer Zeit mal wieder da gewesen. Wir hatten im Vorfeld telefonisch reserviert, diese Reservierung war nicht vorhanden, trotzdem haben wir einen Tisch bekommen. 30 min gewartet bis überhaupt jemand kam um uns mal nach Getränken zu fragen erst nach Aufforderung kam dann jemand. Weitere 30 min warteten wir darauf, dass wir unsere Bestellung aufgeben konnten. Du Kellnerin die immer da ist, war total genervt, als ich sie auf die neue Karte ansprach welche viel kleiner war (was meistens ja nicht schlecht ist) meinte sie nur: „ach sag nichts“ war mir schon alles klar. Ich kenne diese Dame ganz anders, freundlich, witzig zuvorkommend, das Bier war noch nicht leer und wir wurden schon gefragt ob’s nochmal das gleiche sein darf. Schade. Wir bestellten Burger, deswegen kommt man in dieses Lokal. Leider war der Burger einfach nur 0815 geschmacklich nicht vergleichbar mit früher, Pommes einfach nur Standard TK kein Gewürz, nichts, das Paddy vermutlich ebenfalls TK, früher Handarbeit und gutes Kochhandwerk. Leider ist wieder ein besonders Lokal unserer Heimat kaputt gespart worden. Mit dem Einstig der neuen Teilhaber ist wohl eher alles schlechter als besser geworden. Ich verstehe die Kellnerin zu gut, da wohl viele Stammgäste die gleiche Erfahrung gemacht haben wie ich heute. Vermutlich ist sie genervt und weiß das es vorher besser war und so weiter einfach weder dem Gast noch dem Personal Spass machen kann hier her zu kommen. Ich würde den Vorgesetzten empfehlen wieder zu den alten Burgern mit dem Beilagensystem zurück zu kehren, dann kann auch der Burger gerne 23€ kosten, aber so wie jetzt für 19,90 ist es einfach nur Optimierung der Marge auf Kosten des Kunden. Quantität statt Qualität. Ich werde mir wohl ein anderes Lokal suchen. Schade, macht mich tatsächlich traurig. Ich habe hier ganz ganz tolle Abende verleben dürfen mit vielen netten und guten Gesprächen. Ich wünsche dem alten Team alles Gute und viel Glück für...
