Alsancak Simit Sarayi — Restaurant in Berlin

Visited Alsancak Simit Sarayı for a late breakfast and was pleasantly surprised they were still serving at 2 p.m., which is a great perk for those who enjoy brunching a bit later. The staff was incredibly friendly and kind, making the experience more enjoyable. However, a few things could use improvement. For starters, their menu felt a bit incomplete — there were a few traditional options, like Serpme Kahvaltı, that I’d expect to see, especially for a place aiming to bring that Turkish breakfast vibe.

As for the food itself, it was decent. Not the best I’ve had, but certainly not the worst either. It falls into the “okay” category — satisfying but not memorable. The bakery offerings were also just fine, nothing that wowed me, but serviceable enough.

The biggest drawback, though, was the payment situation — in 2024, not accepting card payments is pretty unacceptable. It’s a major inconvenience, and hopefully, they get with the times soon.

A Mixed Experience at Alsancak Simit Sarayi

My visit to Alsancak Simit Sarayi was a mixed bag. While the food was decent, the overall experience left me with some reservations. The simit was enjoyable, with a nice texture, and other menu options also good. The service was average, lacking the attentiveness I had hoped for. The prices seemed a bit high and including a tiny mistake in the bill which is irrelevant but i just didn’t like it.

Plus two more downsides: first one is, we were not informed at the beginning the payment is only cash and no credit card accepted, luckily I had some cash with me otherwise it would’ve been really embarrassing and the second one is the language barrier as a non German speaker I usually don’t feel comfortable if the staff don’t speak English,

Went for some brunch but after they seated me I was ignored by the staff for about 1h. They never bothered to take my order wile serving everyone around me. I waited 30m until I directly asked them to take my order but they just said I had to wait. At least 3 tables around me arrived after me they took their order and served them all wile ignoring me. As soon as I got up to leave they came up to the table to collect the menus with a smile. Not a word was even spoken betwin me and any of the staff exept to ask them if I could order after being waiting for 30m. So I was deliberately denied service and descriminated for my looks and i think I dress as normal as one can be expecially in berlin so take ir as you will.
