Café Haferkater, Ostkreuz — Restaurant in Berlin

This café is located right inside Ostkreuz station, which makes it super convenient if you’re commuting or just passing by. It’s a small place but the place looks clean and has a simple, cozy design.

We tried two of their oat bowls and I absolutely loved them. I’m a big fan of oatmeal, and theirs is served warm with delicious toppings like fresh fruit and a touch of honey. The packaging is also very cute and practical, with a lid that makes it easy to carry or eat while walking.

That said, oatmeal is not for everyone. My boyfriend, for example, found it a bit too thick and sticky once the toppings were gone—but for me, it was just perfect!

I come here very often for my breakfast on the way to work or when we’re about to take a train or plane somewhere. The ziegenkater is amazing, I love that it isn’t very sugar sweet. And the ingredient combination is tasty and fresh.

There is only one simple improvement I would recommend. Currently the table for sitting is directly next to the place wheee people collect their drinks and food. So it’s always jam packed and uncomfortable. Yet on the other side there is and equal amount of space where no-body stands.

Aufmachung Mir gefällt die Aufmachung sehr! Es sieht sehr aufgeräumt und dadurch sehr übersichtlich aus. Man kann sogar in die Küche einblicken und zusehen, wie der Becherer voller wird. Der Porridge sieht in echt genau so lecker aus, wie er abgebildet ist. Ein kleinen Verbesserungsvorschlag habe ich an dieser Stelle: macht eure Informationstafeln ein wenig größer, oder stellt sie draußen zur Verfügung.

Personal Der erste Eindruck bei aktueller Besetzung ist großartig. Sehr freundlich, einladend und doch nicht aufdringlich. Durchgehendes Tragen von Handschuhen beim Zubereiten in der Küche, während jemand anders kassiert (Geld ist schmutzig) gefällt mir persönlich insbesondere in Zeiten wie Corona ebenfalls sehr gut!

Zubereitung Porridge muss zwar erst zubereitet werden, dennoch hatte ich meine Portion in nicht Mal einer Minute in der Hand, sodass auch kein Hindernisse in Eile darstellen wird.

Preis Leistung Die kleine Portion für 3,30€ mit einem kleinen (Filter-)Kaffee ergibt ein vollwertigen und sättigenden Frühstücks- oder Snackpreis von 5,20€. Der Porridge schmeckt sehr lecker. Obwohl das Rezept so einfach ist, schmeckt es daheim nicht so gut. Der Filterkaffee (schwarz) ist ebenfalls zu Empfehlen. Absolut kein bitterer Beigeschmack, sehr mundig und sein Preis m.M.n wert - insbesondere wenn man bedenkt, dass dies ein Kaffee und Porridge vom Bahnhof Ostkreuz ist, wo die Standmiete sicherlich nicht wenig sein wird.
