First night there, a group of us hung out with Sven the bartender...FOR HOURS!!!?! He rocks! The End.
There's a young lady there, all Berlin black-on-black, jet black hair, worked every opening/day shift while we were at the hotel. RUDE A.F.!? Writing the details of my TWO exchanges with her would take up 1000 words but they were each SO shocking, that I thought it was a put-on/comedy routine at first but no...she's just that way.
I ordered three meals to take to the room and after one of the worse verbal exchanges (not a language barrier, a personality problem) I've ever had, the "Medium" steak I ordered was purple. My girlfriend always orders Med-Rare and even she wouldn't trade with me. Pretty sure the steak mooed. These are also NYC prices and they're still doing reductions and art plates with tiny portions. Time to move on like the rest of the world. NOTHING out of the kitchen was worth the price. The next day I brought the tray and dishes back. I asked "where do you want me to put this"?. She replied "I don't care where you put it" and then turned her back and walked away. Her male coworker saw me shift to flip the whole thing up and over on the floor then said "no, no, no put it here"!?! pointing at a four-top. Yes, I absolutely was going to do that.
I told the 250 people of my conference to avoid the place and thoroughly enjoyed seeing Paulaner and Quê Choa PACKED during lunch and dinner the next two days.
Simply based on the "C&S Team" reply here, one can tell that basic customer service (where a lead employee is supposed to be the exact opposite of VERY rude) is not of their concern. What’s really pathetic is the accusation of “hate speech”. I would think that all Berliners would know the EXACT definition of that phrase by now. At no point was there “hate speech”. The “C” word describing the female employee’s behaviour was used and then removed here. “Hate Speech” is derogatory of ethnic, religious, or sexual orientation nature and that never happened. She’s white, I’m white. Nothing else was known nor assumed nor stated to her, here nor otherwise. Their claim of such is a lie and being investigated as slander. A fish rots from...
Read moreWe were very impressed with the food we had at Carl and Sophie. We shared charcoal grilled asparagus with nut butter, an appetizer with edamame and shrimps, roast beef and a dessert with pineapples and sorbet. The asparagus was amazing and very flavorful. The nut butter was a really nice addition to the asparagus that could easily taste plain. The beef had velvety gravy and so good that we could have easily ordered another one. The place is tastefully decorated with nice ambiance lighting and there is a nice terrace seating overlooking the Spree. The reason why I removed one star is because of the service. We were there pretty late around at 9.30 pm and there were two personnel. We asked some questions about the dishes and they couldn’t explain. Not only was it because of the language barrier but I had the strong feeling that they really didn’t know the details of the dish. Their answers were short, they put the dish on the table with no explanation or stating the name of the dish. They were not ‘serving’, but just carrying the food from the kitchen to the table. Simply, the quality of the service didn’t match to the overall fine-dining image of...
Read moreWalked into the restaurant, stood there for about five minutes- caught eyes with someone in the back- they annoyingly said to just wait and it would be a minute (we weren’t in a rush, and we were fine waiting) lady that sat us was super rude and seemed annoyed we came into the restaurant (they close at 10, we arrived at 7:30). We tried being very polite and nice to the server (same girl that sat us down), she ignored us, gave us dirty looks… literally every interaction with anyone working here at this restaurant was terrible. We ordered 5 dishes. It took an hour to come out. Took 45 minutes to get a bill after requesting a few times and being told to hold on.
Food was okay. Not worth the price. Every restaurant in Berlin we’ve been to in the last 8 days have been amazing… We went here because we were staying at the hotel, tired from the marathon, and wanted something close and easy. Welp.
If you are questioning whether to go out and stay in because you’re tired… leave. There’s plenty of close restaurants near by that would love...
