tldr: as Korean as it gets. Fresh food across the board and very friendly staff. Overall rating 4,75/5.
Atmosphere (4/5): The restaurant is an open space with subtle and minimalistic design elements. The open space allows for a generous amount of natural light. The only downside is the ambient noise during busy hours.
Hospitality (5/5): The entirely Korean staff is very attentive yet not intrusive. If you order Korean BBQ the staff will grill your food according to your preferences at your table. That is a very nice touch as in most Korean restaurants around Berlin you will get the grill on your table and then have to take care of the meat and veggies yourself. Aside from the grill preparations the staff noticed when we were low on drinks but left us to enjoy the food for most parts of the meal.
Food (10/10): Full disclosure: I did come here multiple times to try different dishes and I will be coming back for more. The food at MOIM is rich in flavor and not westernized which I appreciate a lot. If you are looking for a proper Korean culinary experience this is the right place for you. They specialize in many hotpot-like spicy stews and soups which are a great addition to your usual suspects. You can order stews and soups for multiple people in a wok on a gas grill which is great for sharing. My personal favorites are the spicy stew with soft tofu and sea food (Sundubu Jjigae 순두부찌개) and the spicy fish stew (Saeng seon jeongol 생선전골). I already mentioned their grilled dishes but their beef filet (안심) deserves special notice. The combination of perfectly grilled juicy filet, savory dips and authentic Korean sides (반찬) is presented very well. Their glazed pork ribs (갈비) are as good as it gets: the tender meat slides right off the bone and the glaze has that...
Read moreWe went to MOIM to celebrate a birthday, and it turned out to be such a great experience!
We ordered the Salmon Tempura with Miso Dressing (No.5), the Obul (No.93) – a mix of Sobulgogi and spicy marinated squid – and Makkoli, a traditional Korean rice wine.
Everything was full of flavor and felt authentic. The side dishes and rice being refillable was another highlight and made the meal even more enjoyable.
The food quality was excellent – fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The service was outstanding, very friendly and attentive, and they made us feel really welcome.
Overall, it felt like more than just dinner – it was an experience. We’d give it 10/5 if we could 🤩 but realistically, it’s a strong 4.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆.
If you want to try something unique, I’d highly recommend going for the Korean BBQ here. It’s a must-try if you enjoy exploring new flavors and cultures...
Read moreOn a Saturday night, the place was bustling. Full to the brim with people, but still managed to receive excellent service, as we hardly even waited for our dishes to arrive.
The appetizers (mandu, pork ribs and salmon tempura) didn’t disappoint and we were very happy with all aspects the dishes (flavor, texture).
For our main dish we had the Bulnaki Korean BBQ. The portion was very generous, the beef was exquisite - very tender and flavorful, and the accompaniments and sides were also very good. The only complain that I have, and why I gave 4 stars, is that one of the two main ingredients of the dish, the baby octopuses, were extremely bland and very chewy - practically inedible.
However, it is still worth it to go and I would surely return to try other dishes, as the positives significantly outweighed...
