Café Fridolin — Restaurant in Cologne

We went there last Sunday (14. Aug) morning for brunch and it turned out to be a disaster. It is a nice place to sit but we waited 20 min until they took the order and about 30 min more for the drinks even tho it wasn’t near full. We ordered a bagel and a „Flammkuchen“. We waited for over an hour and still no food. We asked the girl and she casually said she’ll check (it wasn’t busy) and then she never returned. We asked another waitress who said, sorry we forgot about the food. Then it took another 40 min. We were so hungry. We never heard a sorry. Just rude. Very beautiful Café. Food and Drinks are delicious and the Café is only about a three minute walk away from the train station Venloerstraße/Gürtel. The Atmosphere is very laid back and relaxing and everything has a very Nostalgic but lively vibe. One of my absolute favourite Cafés. Also really good music and friendly staff. Das Essen in diesem Café war wirklich gut, und zunächst wirkte alles kinderfreundlich – doch unser Besuch endete in einem Schockmoment, den ich so schnell nicht vergessen werde.

Kurz nach dem Bezahlen hatte die Kellnerin einen Teller mit Nudeln auf dem Nachbartisch abgestellt, um ihn später weiterzugeben. Mein dreijähriger Sohn dachte, der Tisch gehöre noch zu uns, und wollte mit dem Finger danach greifen.

Plötzlich schlug die Kellnerin ihm die Hand weg und sagte laut und scharf: „Das ist fremdes Essen, Junge!“ Ich war völlig schockiert. Diese körperliche Reaktion einer fremden Person gegenüber einem kleinen Kind war für mich absolut übergriffig – nicht einmal ich als Mutter würde so mit meinem Kind umgehen.

Zwar wollte sich die Kellnerin kurz darauf entschuldigen, aber ich war so überrumpelt und unter Schock, dass ich es in dem Moment nicht annehmen konnte. Wir standen ohnehin schon auf, und ich bin einfach nur sprachlos gegangen.

Für ein Café, das familienfreundlich wirken möchte, ist dieses Verhalten inakzeptabel. Ich werde nicht wiederkommen – und ich kann es Eltern mit kleinen Kindern...
