Pizzeria Piccola Ehrenfeld — Restaurant in Cologne

I used to go here with friends from time to time for birthdays and so on. I always had a great experience and when we went here for a friends birthday last year the pizzas were amazing. However when I went there today I was sad to see that the quality changed a lot. The pizzas are simply horrible, none of us wanted to finish the pizzas. Drenched in liquid making them soggy and at the same time overcooked on the edges. I had a truffle pizza and was expecting a nice flavour explosion but it tasted worse than a frozen pizza with barely any trace of truffle flavor. It is really sad since I used to looooove this place 😢 also the service changed, the staff used to be so friendly but now it felt like a cold meeting with the waiter feeling bothered to even talk to us. A nice place to have Italian cuisine. Servers were friendly and tried their best to accommodate me and spoke English whenever they could. Seating was a lil tough on Friday night 9pm but I managed to get a place after 15mins wait (1 pax seated at a table for two). Larger groups may have trouble trying to secure a seat. The place also tends to get on the noisier side as it is packed to the brim.

Food was good; affordably-priced and portion was generous. I do find the pizza base a little on the tougher side — I personally prefer a thin crust pizza. The Italian pizza I get in Malaysia is much easier to chew through. Could be just me though.

The atmosphere and the service are good. Staff is very friendly. But the food quality is not. Pizza is done in an electric oven, is a bit gooey and feels like from an upgraded Imbiss than a restaurant pretending to serve Italian pizza. If you want mozzarella cheese instead of gouda - which is Dutch - you have to pay additional 80 cents. Instead of spicy oil, you get Ajvar (tomato/pepper mix from the Balkan region), the Nizza salad has shredded carrots in it. No, the cook wasn't inspired by fusion, he/she simply doesn't know. Payment by credit card is not possible (only German EC cards) but tip needs to be done in cash only... Still, the place was full... Not...
