Café Mansito — Restaurant in Cologne

Ordered the 3-Empanada menu with the Popeye, curry chicken and cheese empanadas(Uber Eats). The pastry was well cooked, thin and crispy, almost perfect. The chicken empanada had the optimal amount of chicken, spice and the volume of filling in general. The sauce(Chimichurri) was too watery though, which soured the experience a bit overall. The other two empanadas were a quite average, the cheese-ham one being slightly better than the Popeye. Also the packing was quite good, the pricing although, could've been a bit better. Went subsequently again but this time to eat at the café. The freshness and the flavours of the three empanadas (beef, spicy beef and curry chicken) were all very crispy, fresh and better overall. And the coffee which i ordered, an oat milk flat white was proportioned perfectly, was quite aromatic and the bitterness was low but i still enjoyed it...

This sweet little café in Cologne’s ‘Suedstadt’ is hip, cozy and exudes a bit of a latino laidbackness. The surf theme and hispanic music underline the atmosphere.

Under the new ownership the menu has been extended and the Heilandt coffee has been brought to the next level: barista skills are spot on, so you can enjoy a great flat white or cappuccino.

The food menu is more varied now, though it’s nice to see that the small brunch items continue to include an egg soufflé the café was already famous for under the previous owners.

Leider ein sehr enttäuschender Besuch – und das, obwohl ich das Café eigentlich gern mit Kolleg:innen besuche.

Ich war schon oft in diesem Café, auch mit der Arbeit, und es war lange mein absolutes Lieblingscafé – vor allem wegen der Empanadas. Umso mehr habe ich mich darauf gefreut, es heute einer Freundin zu zeigen. Leider war der Besuch alles andere als schön.

Schon bei der Bestellung war die Kellnerin sehr unsicher, welche Empanadas es überhaupt gab, und lief mehrmals zur Theke und zurück. Letztlich bestellten wir – doch dann hieß es plötzlich, es gäbe keine vegetarischen Empanadas mehr. Da waren unsere Getränke aber schon da, also konnten wir auch nicht einfach wieder gehen.

Die Empanadas, die wir dann bekamen, waren nur lauwarm. Beim Salat fehlten die Kerne, und das Dressing war ebenfalls kaum vorhanden. Als wir am Ende freundlich Rückmeldung gaben, wurde weder zugehört noch Verständnis gezeigt – stattdessen nur: „Heute fehlt jemand in der Küche.“ Als ich anmerkte, dass kleine Gesten wie ein Getränk oder eine zusätzliche Empanada als Entschuldigung angebracht wären, kam die Antwort: „Dann hätten wir heute keinen Umsatz gemacht.“ Das war wirklich enttäuschend – vor allem, weil ein ehrliches „Tut mir leid“ schon gereicht hätte.

Ich hoffe sehr, dass das ein Ausrutscher war – aber dieser Besuch hat definitiv einen schalen Nachgeschmack hinterlassen und ich werde vorerst nicht mehr herkommen. Dass es mal vom Personal her unterbesetzt ist, kann ja ganz normal passieren aber dann muss der Service dies auffangen können und nicht so...
