Alter Bahnhof Oberkassel — Restaurant in Dusseldorf

Huh where to start, so many bad things happened in just one visit... In first round we got one Altbier instead of ordered Pils (ok it happens, but it was just indication of what will follow later). Two apple juices for children, ordered at the same time, arrived approximately 10 minutes later. Coke ordered with ice was brought of course without ice. Later, along with more beers, we ordered one Cappuccino and french fries. Waiter wasn't happy with the order of Cappuccino and said it will take 20 minutes... Until the end of our stay we didn't get that Cappuccino. He also forgot about french fries (or just ignored). During our stay whenever we waved or tried to stop the waiter to order more drinks he was unpleasant and many times just ignored us. In the last round he brought us Radler instead of Pils. Ok it can happen, similar color... However when I told him that it's not a Pils he just disregarded, waved with his hand and said "Radler is also ok". Such insolent behavior was the last drop when I decided to go and ask for his manager. He just laughed at that and neither his colleagues were of any help. Probably they all knew there was no one that cares about the reputation of that place and just didn't care. When I told him that I am going to write a review about our stay soon after that, our long ago ordered french fries were delivered together with a Pils (instead of wrongly delivered Radler). Hausbrauerei Alter Bahnhof Oberkassel is a nice brewpub with an inviting atmosphere. It is located in a two-story yellow brick building with a Spanish style tile roof, and has a hexagonal tower reminiscent of a castle. Just inside the entrance you'll see their two shiny copper brewing vessels behind a short railing. They make one beer here; in Dusseldorf naturally it is an Altbier. It is light bodied and has a decent flavor. To the right is a dining room in the castle part of the building. To the left is a dining room, and out back are more tables in a connected space covered by large tents. The interior walls are restaurant with historic posters and paintings. In the center is the service bar which has selves of glassware and a jib hoist for lifting up a keg of their beer. The Altbier is served fresh from this barrel, in the traditional small 200mL glasses. The staff is prompt to greet you, and the service is fast. Their food menu consists of typical German cuisine, with a nice variety of starters, salads, pasta, and a variety of meat and fish entrees. It is decent. The place has no background music so you hear the clank of glasses at the bar, and the cheerful conversations of the dining patrons. It is a decent family-friendly brewpub, but I wish they had more...

Servicefreie Zone mit gepfefferten Preisen

Ich war vorgestern Abend mit zwei Freunden nach langer Zeit mal wieder im Biergarten vom Alten Bahnhof in Oberkassel. Unsere Erlebnisse dort:

Nachdem wir das erste Getränk ausgetrunken hatten, wurden wir mindestens eine Stunde lang konsequent von unserem Kellner vollständig ignoriert, während alle anderen Tische um uns herum permanent bedient wurden, insbesondere ein Nachbartisch mit einer extrem lauten und mit zunehmender Alkoholisierung immer prolliger herumgrölenden Gruppe.

Da eine Unterhaltung aufgrund des Lärms von diesem Nachbartisch teilweise nicht mehr möglich war, habe ich unseren Kellner gebeten, erstens den Tisch wechseln und zweitens eine weitere Bestellung aufgeben zu können. Daraufhin wurde uns unfreundlich ein anderer Tisch zugewiesen (wählen konnten wir nicht, obwohl inzwischen genügend Tische frei waren), eine Bestellung wurde weiterhin nicht aufgenommen.

Nach einer Weile nahm dann endlich ein anderer Kellner unsere Bestellung auf. Daraufhin brachte er mir ein falsches Getränk, obwohl er meine Bestellung noch selbst laut wiederholt hatte. Mit dem richtigen Getränk bekam ich dann ein Glas, das aussah, als hätte es eine Woche lang an einem Flussufer gelegen. Ich bin nun wirklich nicht pingelig, aber ein derart verdrecktes Glas würde ich nicht einmal als Blumenvase verwenden.

Im späteren Verlauf des Abends wurden wir schließlich aufgefordert, zu zahlen und zu gehen, da man schließen würde, obwohl noch etliche andere Gäste im Biergarten saßen.

Insgesamt hatte ich fast den Eindruck, dass man uns gezielt rausekeln wollte. Für die Leser dieser Bewertung, die uns natürlich nicht kennen und einschätzen können: Wir waren ganz normal gekleidet und sind auch sonst in unserem Erscheinungsbild nicht auffällig. Und trotz aller Ärgernisse sind wir den gesamten Abend über höflich und freundlich geblieben und haben uns in keinster Weise negativ benommen – im Gegensatz zu dem erwähnten Nachbartisch.

Fazit: Ich war früher immer sehr gerne im Alten Bahnhof, aber offensichtlich hat sich seitdem dort einiges geändert. Man zahlt gepfefferte Preise (z.B. 6,00 Euro für ein Weizenbier, 3,40 Euro für einen Käse- oder Metthappen) für Null Service, so etwas braucht kein Mensch. Aber es gibt in Ober- und Niederkassel ja genügend schöne andere Lokale mit Beschäftigten, die die Bedeutung des Wortes „Gastfreundschaft“ kennen und leben und wo das Preisniveau obendrein auch etwas günstiger ist.
