Food was not good, the tacos were too dry. But I don’t blame the restaurant for it since I understand this is definitely not Mexico or Texas, however - what I don’t understand is - why do they force us to pay a minimum 20% tip?? And of course we did because we are tourists and we are here for the trap, isn’t it? Let me break it down for you so you can learn: Tipping isn't mandatory in Germany. Instead, it's seen as a gesture of appreciation for a good experience. A tip is always welcome, but in Germany, it's usually based directly on the quality of service. If you're satisfied, leaving a tip is a way to show it. Meaning - customer will most likely tip you based on the level of friendliness or sourness expression on your face, but you can’t force people to give like a 3 year old. Got it? Right

reply to the below message from the restaurant: I am fully aware of the 19%, please. No children here, I don’t think you are one either. Whatever was stated in the bill, either VAT or Service charge - absolutely fine. I was clearly talking about the additional tips on top of everything. Let me re-iterate: we were asked to pay an ADDITIONAL 20% AS TIPS. I don’t need your money and this is absolutely nothing at all, please, I was just feeling UNFAIR for my fellow colleague who paid whatever was stated on the bill and then was forced to pay another 20% on top of that. Unfortunately I was not aware of this at that moment, I was told about the incident after we went back to the hotel. I understand my colleagues might not be well versed in German or in English, but they are mature, honest and responsible people. If this is how you treat foreign visitors - good luck and I hope you get what you want. Whatever is happening, happening...

War schon immer großer Fan von Casita Mexicana und bin regelmäßiger Kunde, schon seit dessen Eröffnung in Düsseldorf vor 13 Jahren. Doch heute wurde ich leider zutiefst enttäuscht.

Vorweg: Gegen das Essen an sich gibt es überhaupt nichts zu meckern, war bis jetzt nach jeder Mahlzeit immer zufrieden und gehe deshalb dort gerne auch mal mit Familie oder Freunden essen. Heute Abend wollten wir zu dritt hin, waren um genau 21:15 Uhr dort (kleine Anmerkung am Rande: Laut Internet schließt das Restaurant um 23:00/00:00 Uhr und die Küche um 22:00 Uhr) Als mich die Dame am Eingang begrüßte, entgegnete ich ihr höflich auf Spanisch, dass wir drei Personen seien, worauf sie mir komischerweise auf Englisch antwortete, weshalb auch immer, was zudem darauf hinweisen lässt, dass es in dem Restaurant an Authentizität mangelt. Also fuhr ich fort, diesmal auf Deutsch. Sie teilte mir mit, dass sie keine weiteren Bestellungen mehr aufnehmen würden, was mich jedoch verwunderte, da noch reichlich Zeit zur Verfügung stand, um unsere Bestellung aufzunehmen und von der Küche verarbeiten zu lassen. Außerdem sah ich, dass noch freie Plätze für uns vorhanden waren. Also bat ich mit jemand anderem zu sprechen, woraufhin sie mir arroganterweise mitteilte, dass sie die Managerin sei. Nachdem die Köche mir netterweise versicherten, dass es kein Problem für sie sei uns etwas zu machen, bevor die Küche schließen würde, regte sich die Dame auf und verschwand aufgeregt hinter der Theke und ließ uns am Eingang zurück. Wir entschlossen uns, nach höflichem Hinweis eines weiteren Mitarbeiters, letztendlich zu gehen.

Ich selber arbeite in der Gastronomie und weiß daher, wie man Gäste richtig empfängt, bedient und behandelt. Das Fehlen an Professionalität der „Managerin“ und des Respekts gegenüber ihren Kunden ließen mich empören. Anscheinend ist man Stress und hohe Auslastung der Kapazitäten an diesem Standort nicht gewohnt. Zum Glück wichen wir ins nebenanliegende Vapiano, wo man uns deutlich höflicher begegnete, aus und ließen uns unseren Abend nicht zerstören.

Fazit: Das Essen ist klasse und kann ich jedem, der gerne mexikanisch isst nur weiterempfehlen. Doch vielleicht ist man in Pempelfort, Bilk oder in der Altstadt, was die Bedienung betrifft, besser aufgehoben. Ich hoffe, dass man sich die Kritikpunkte zu Herzen nimmt und in Zukunft hochqualitativen Service in Ergänzung zum Essen...

Arguably the best place to visit in Düsseldorf. The food is so good I beg my friends and family to go. Most employees speak Spanish (English too!) and I often try to practice my Spanish with them, and they are all wonderful people with great hospitality. The decor inside is very unique, almost rustic, with the Latin vibe. They offer menus in multiple languages, which is always good. The staff always look like they are having fun. My favourite dish is the tacos asada (with extra cheese) but I also love the burritos and quesadillas. The menu is a simple build-your-own style which allows everyone to enjoy something.
