Being Italian, we probably set the bar high when eating at Italian restaurants, especially abroad, and are often disappointed. But this time, despite our low expectations going in, we were dissatisfied. The house salad (nothing to do with Italy) was overwhelmed by cheap balsamic vinegar and an unrecognisable plastic-type of cheese, the sauce of ravioli was not with “salsiccia” but some sort of German surrogate, and the pizza both heavy and elastic … Last but not least, the bill was very substantial (half a portion (i.e. two spinach and ricotta ravioli, although huge in size, for €11.00 ?!?!) and the “friendliness” of the owner overpowering, especially since he thought it would only be appropriate to tip himself with €3 without even asking (the credit card machine was indeed broken that night, what a coincidence …). It’s a No No from us...

Da Gaetano, der charismatische Italiener und Herz dieses Restaurants, schafft es normalerweise, mit seiner Herzlichkeit und Gastfreundschaft den Gästen ein Stück Italien näher zu bringen, auch wenn der Abend diesmal nicht perfekt war. Die Küche zeigte Stärken und kleine Schwächen: Meine Spaghetti waren geschmacklich hervorragend und überzeugten auf ganzer Linie. Die „di Mare“-Zutaten wirken hingegen weniger frisch und erinnern eher an Tiefkühlware. Die Pizza meiner Begleitung, wie gewohnt mit einem perfekten Teig, ließ bei den Belägen ein wenig Raffinesse vermissen. Insgesamt aber solide Gerichte, die den typisch italienischen Geschmack nicht verfehlen. Beim Service und Ambiente gab es an diesem Abend einige Stolpersteine. Vor dem Betreten des Lokals fallen ein voller Müllsack und abgestellte Küchenutensilien ins Auge – sicherlich eine Ausnahme, die jedoch einen etwas unglücklichen ersten Eindruck hinterlässt. Die Bedienung wirkte an diesem Abend etwas gestresst und weniger aufmerksam, als man es hier gewohnt ist. Da Gaetano hat uns schon oft schöne Abende beschert. Auch wenn dieser Besuch nicht ganz an frühere heranreicht, bleibt das Lokal ein Ort...

Food is good, and it's Ok in general. When it is booked and a lot of people, the quality starts to decrease. I will go again to enjoy...
