CUXX — Restaurant in Essen

The CUXX, located inside the Atlantic Congress, is a fine bistro/restaurant where one can enjoy an excellent meal in a very pleasant location.

It is also accessible to non-hotel guests (even the breakfast).

During the breakfast is it possible to find sweet and savoury food, with some delicacies I have rarely encountered (including: 16 types of tea that can only be consumed after infusion (no pre-packaged sachets), fresh smoothies, 3 types of honey, 6 types of jams, 3 varieties of seeds).

Several dishes are offered, including some typical ones.

The courses are plentiful, and the price is more than commensurate with the excellent quality of the food and the aesthetic pleasantness of the arrangement.

Found a couple of cherished single malts, a Springbank 10 and the now hard-to-find, Talisker 57 degrees. Would have been a total pleasure if the hospitality was up to par with the whisk offering. The barman should be reminded that he's running a bar not a nuclear shelter! Smiling and looking into the eyes of the patrons while serving them is permitted (a cue from the nearby no-frills Sailor's bar sign, 'Smile, it may confuse people'...

Das CUXX überzeugt mit einem stilvollen Ambiente in einer schön angelegten Hotelanlage. Die Atmosphäre ist angenehm, der Service aufmerksam, freundlich und durchweg professionell – da fühlt man sich als Gast gut aufgehoben. Das Essen ist geschmacklich in Ordnung, aber ohne besondere Raffinesse. Die Portionen sind großzügig, was definitiv positiv auffällt. Ich habe mich für einen Burger aus der veganen Rubrik der Karte entschieden. Geschmacklich war er solide, das Patty selbst konnte aber nicht mit Alternativen wie Redefine Meat oder Beyond Meat mithalten – es war recht kompakt und hatte keine fleischähnliche Textur, was gerade bei modernen veganen Burgern heute durchaus Standard sein kann. Ein echter Kritikpunkt: Der Burger wurde mit klassischer (nicht veganer) Hellmann’s Mayonnaise serviert. Ich selbst bin kein Veganer, verzichte aber auf Fleisch – für mich also kein Drama. Für Menschen, die sich streng vegan ernähren, wäre das allerdings ein klarer Ausschlussgrund. Wenn man schon eine vegane Option anbietet, sollte diese dann auch durchgängig vegan umgesetzt sein.
