Review from a travelling coeliac :-)

This is the only chain that I know of in Germany that I can recommend to other gluten free diners including coeliacs. There is a curry dish and many types of mixed salads that can be safely prepared gluten free. Dean & David HQ, local sites and their website and menus all reflect this.

Highlights from my experience at Dean & David are:

++ Whilst the online menu indicates Gluten Free dishes this is not mirrored on site. However even as a non-German speaker I could quickly understand the detailed allergen matrix sheets without the help of my server. My server was also able to offer advice and suggestion.

++ The salad dishes, both those on the menu and the 'make your own' option offer wonderful variety and generous portions for the price

++ Lovely fruit based smoothies

++ Restaurant interior is simple but comfortable and inviting, with a casual and fairly relaxed feel

Things I would like to improve in order to award a 5th star -

On site, have gluten free dishes marked up on the main menu, or have a dedicated allergen or gluten free menu in both German and English

Add a gluten free wrap option to expand the range of gluten free food generally, and especially expand the range for take-out and...

It has a good healthy menu with plenty of variety and caters for most tastes and hungers. I particularly like the selection of salads mixed with hot chicken or beef or the various sandwiches of feta cheese or vegan if that's your thing. Service is good but sometimes a little slow especially during covid times when the restaurant is empty but phoned in orders seem to make the wait longer. It's also a bit pricey but for what you get but the other side of this is everything is fresh and has a good variety. I pass by every day and it always draws me in at least once during the working week. Great place but be prepared to pay a little over the top and dont be fooled by and empty shop if you expect to get your meal...

Optisch top Service Flop. Es tut mir auch wirklich leid nur 2 Sterne zu geben aber der Service war wirklich schlecht. Das Personal was eigentlich nett aber wir haben Kaffe bestellt und uns wurde gesagt dass wir uns schonmal setzen sollen. Wir sind davon ausgegangen dass uns der Kaffe gebracht wird. Nach ca 10 min sind wir wieder zur Theke gelaufen und haben nachgefragt. Dort wurde uns gesagt es sei Selbstbedingug was ja auch okay ist. (Hätte nur gesagt werden sollen) Der erste Kaffe stand schon fertig unter der Maschine war aber inzwischen schon nicht mehr so warm, da das Personal mit den anderen beiden Kaffees gewartet hatte bis bezahlt wurde. Was ist das denn für eine komische Art. Also entweder mache ich erst alles wenn bezahlt wurde oder ich bezahle alles im Nachhinein. Naja also ein Kaffe schon halb kalt und auf die anderen musste noch gewartet werden. Beim warten wurden von irgendeinem internen boten einfach noch lose Avocados über die Theke gereicht die er scheinbar gerade bei Edeka eingekauft hatte. Ist ja vom Prinzip her okay aber Man muss ja nicht jede Avocado einzeln über die Theke reichen wenn Kundschaft da ist. Dann geht man kurz selbst hinter die Theke und legt die dahin.

Aber naja. Jetzt aber zum absoluten No Go. Es wurden zwei Sandwiches bestellt die einfach noch leicht in der Mitte gefroren waren.

Ich weiß nicht ob wir einfach nur Pech hatten denn eigentlich sah der Laden echt super aus aber leider wurden wir stark enttäuscht. Die Preise waren zwar teuer aber noch im Rahmen. Positiv war, dass es einen Wickelraum gab und das Personal freundlich war und alles sauber und modern war.

Ich hoffe Mal wir hatten nur einen schlechten Tag erwischt.... Aber leider kann ich das lokal...
