Braustuberl Weihenstephan in Freising is recognised as the oldest brewery in the world. With a history dating back to 1040, this is a neat place to visit and have a meal during day trips from Munich. The brewery is open from 10am to midnight daily while kitchen hours are 11.30am to 10pm daily.
Here you find a traditional beerhall and beer garden setup with a typical menu of Bavarian and Germany cuisine. During our lunch we ordered the 3 types of German sausage served sauerkraut, mash potato and mustards. The sausages were good quality, flavourful and very tasty, much nicer than sausage platters ordered at other beerhalls during this visit to Munich.
We also tried the Bavarian Roast Pork served in beer sauce with dumpling. This was also surprisingly very tasty. The pork skin was crispy and the meat, succulent and well flavoured. We liked the beer sauce, reminded us a bit of Fleming dishes served up in Belgium. Dark and Original Hell beers tried during our lunch were very good.
Overall, we were quite pleased with our lunch at Weihenstephan during our trip out to Freising. It was the best beerhall meal we had during our week in the Munich area. We'd happily visit again for another found of Braustuberl Weihenstephan...

The Biergarten is situated near the top of the hill which offers a panoramic view of Freising Bavaria and offers a very traditional menu of Schweinsbraten, Schweinshaxen, and other Bavarian staples as well as a seasonal menu. The Braustuberl and attached Biergarten have a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere with great service and reasonable prices. My wife, her father, and I went on a Friday afternoon in May and had no problem finding a good table. The drinks were served in minutes and our dinner did not take long to get to the table. I had the Schweinsbraten with knoedel and it was everything I would expect. The knoedel was fresh, house made potato knoedel with a delicious dark bier sauce. My wife had the asparagus and morell tagliatelle and it was very good. The experience as a whole...
