Jakob — Restaurant in Goslar

Horrible experience w/ staff. My husband & I are an international couple living and working in Goslar. He is Indian, I am Chinese. On 23.4.22 a friend came to visit us. We took her and her kid to Jacob for lunch. The kid is 6 & first thing he did there was to fold today's recommended menu into a paper plane. A tall, short haired and blonde lady came to serve us. She apparently noticed the atrocity of the kid before any of us did and 'kindly' reminded us that the "Speisekarte kostet auch Geld". (The Menü also takes money to print). German people are usually very kind to kids & they have their own style of humour so at that moment I thought it was a sarcastic but loving joke from her side. I was wrong. She kept wearing a stern look during the order and strangely asked us if we are sure that we give 3 orders for 4 people. It was a weird question because I think we are not obliged to explain to her the why. 🤔 I can only hope that this is not about the way we look. We told the staff we are willing to pay for the paper. The staff told us we did not need to, and the lady never appeared for the rest of the meal. Even so, everything was somehow less delightful than before we set foot in that restaurant. Giving 2 stars only because the other staff have been very friendly. So, especially for international looking people, better think twice before you go. The chance having to deal w/ such nonsense exists. At least for me & husband, we are NOT looking at Jacob when we think about a nice dinner...

The atmosphere is very cozy, Gesa did a great job designing it to be modern and sleek compared to the old restaurant. The menu is still mostly from the old place, but with a few upscale additions as well. The bar is beautiful, and everything always feels really clean.

The Gyrosbrötchen is always a great item to order for a quick sandwich to go. Just be prepared to wait, because priority is always on the guests dining in. Which isn't such a bad thing in and of itself, but when you're in a rush, it's not ideal. The service isn't always the nicest, I've had more negative feelings than positive ones (such as feeling rushed, feeling like I'm in the way while I wait at the bar for my food to go, and generally not feeling very welcomed) but that being said, there is one server who always has a smile.

Wir waren ca. 16:35 Uhr im Restaurant, wurden nett empfangen und an einen Tisch gebracht. Die Getränke wurden jeweils sehr schnell nach Bestellung serviert. 👍🏻 Das Essen hatten wir dann schon heiß um ca. 17:00 Uhr auf dem Tisch. Es waren mehrere Service-Kräfte eingesetzt, wobei die Aufmerksamkeit etwas variierte (leere Gläser/Getränke, bezahlen).

Das Restaurant ist schön eingerichtet/gestaltet. Die Tische sind recht gut positioniert und durch die baulichen Trennungen im Gastraum gut verteilt.

Ich hatte Gyros mit Souvlaki und 2x Kräuter-Limo (Bergkräuter von Kräuterbraut).

Gyros: Das Fleisch war gut, teils knusprig und teils zart, so wie es sein sollte, kein Fett, Knorpel oder zähes Fleisch. 👍🏻 Kleiner Minuspunkt: es war recht salzig. Die Zwiebeln etwas grob und für meinen persönlichen Geschmack zu viel.

Souvlaki: Leckeres, zartes, gut gebratenes Fleisch, weder zäh noch trocken. 👍🏻 Ein kleines Stück Sehne o. ä. war dabei, was nicht ganz so schön war.

pikante Sauce: Sehr lecker, davon gern noch etwas mehr. 👍🏻

Tomatenreis: Das Salz, was beim Gyros zu viel war, hat hier gefehlt. Somit gleicht es sich insgesamt auf dem Teller wieder etwas aus. Geschmacklich und Garpunkt ansonsten in Ordnung.

Weißkrautsalat: Für meinen Geschmack etwas zu viel Säure. Ich mag ihn lieber etwas milder bzw. süßer.

Kräuterbraut-Limos: Brombeere Rosmarin: Geschmack nach Beeren ja, Rosmarin eher nein. Okay, muss aber nicht nochmal sein. Zitrone Minze: Minze sehr im Vordergrund und etwas künstlich, erinnert an Kaugummi. Nicht nochmal. Bergkräuter: Fand ich gut. 👍🏻

FAZIT: Insgesamt ein gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis mit kleinen Details, die noch verbessert werden könnten. Die Karte ist m. E. auch gut. Nicht mein erster und wahrscheinlich auch nicht mein letzter Besuch im...
