A bit on the expensive side considering what you’re getting but I guess you pay for the history and the place.
Very cute little restaurant with a lot of history apparently. We came two people and were seated very closely next to another couple, in general I think that you’re seated quite snuggly with other patrons which is not always that nice.
We were served a small appetizer which consisted of four pieces of thinly sliced, very dry bread with a bit of creme fraiche or quark or something like that. Very weird honestly. Germany is know for their bakeries, but this was very sloppy.
As a shared starter we tried their labskovs. It’s basically like German tartar. I really found it quite repulsive in flavor, but my partner who is German liked it. I really didn’t like it, but I am happy that I tried it.
For main course I had a steak with a baked potato and some greens. My partner had rinderroulade and sauce. My steak was nicely cooked, and so was the other stuff on my plate. Besides that I think it was just quite average. Nothing too overwhelming and special. I do think however, that my girlfriend’s rinderoulade was super nice. Very flavorful sauce, nice tender beef and her potatoes were good too. Only for that reason I give it 4, otherwise it would’ve been an easy 3 stars for me.
I think there are much better places to go for this...
Read moreThe service and the environment were so welcoming when we arrived. The spot was a bit hidden in an alleyway but not too hard to find. They offered English menu to non-German speaker. We ordered 2 soups and 2 mains for the table.
Aalsuppe (Eel soup) - The eel is boneless and incredibly tender. The soup is simmered with a variety of vegetables, giving it a naturally sweet flavour.
Krabbensuppe (Crab soup) - The crab soup is creamy and bursting with rich crab flavor. The small prawns in the soup and the dollop of cream on top add an extra layer of taste and texture
Schnitzel - The food portion is generous and freshly fried. It’s served with crispy potato slice and cucumber slices, which add a refreshing contrast to the fried dish
Pasta with Lobster Sauce - The pasta is also in a decent size, with a rich and creamy lobster sauce. The grilled boneless fish is tender, well-seasoned, and pairs perfectly with the pasta.
Funny story: We were actually in a rush to catch a coach, but the restaurant was simply too good to skip. We have no regrets about cutting it close and nearly missing our coach. The waiter was also very understanding of our situation and did his best to...
Read moreThe food is good enough, but pricey. The service is questionable. We reserved a seat in advance, we chose it specifically for the beautiful interior. However, we didn't know that there are in fact 2 separate buildings. One building is the beautiful, old one of which you see a lot of photos and videos. The other one is poorly decorated and if you want to go to the bathroom from there, you have to go outside and go to another building. They are not far away from each other, but still. When we came there were still a few places in the old beautiful building, but they seated us in the other one. When we asked the waiter if we could move to the beautiful building, he said that there was no place. We could see the free places there the whole time, it was not full. It is quite disappointing that they do not warn you about the 2 buildings when you book in advance and also refuse to change your place even though the availability allows it. Very disappointed. Do not think that the food...
