Madame Mai Hamburg — Restaurant in Hamburg

We visited this place for a dinner on a Saturday, when the restaurant is the most busy, so you need to take it in account when u will read the review :)

Food: Its Asian restaurant, and maybe for that purpose it’s good, but we were sad to see only 1 offer of sushi inside-out. They were tasty, but quite small (respect for portion of 10 sushi tho) but mango is not the best choice.

Sauce for fried-avocado was too strong so u can not feel the avo at all.

The whole concept of sashimi is also ruined, it’s drowning in sauce, which is not for everyone.

2. Service was kind and take care of all questions we had during the evening, also it’s super fast, while we were still ordering the food another waitress brought our cocktails ( btw I don’t recommend pink ice tea, but pinky way lemonade for sure)

3. Atmosphere is super for meeting with friends or for quite short date, because the music is a little bit intensive, which implies you to eat faster and leave. We spent there 1:30h. Also I like a lot the design of the restaurant, its a big plus.

A hidden in the city Vietnamees tappas restaurant with good interior and service.

We went there because our hotel was around 7 minutes away and we are fond of Asian food.

It was a pity that we could not choose from the tapas menu, because it was only served after 15.30. We in the end choose for one Pho with beef and Bo Bun (rice noodle with sauce but without the soup) and two side dishes.

The speed of the kitchen was great. All dishes were served in a nicely presented way. The ingredients used in the Bun looked fresh and colorful and the broth of the Pho tasted good. The broth they used was quite light of flavor and balanced.

Overall we enjoyed our lunch time, did not have a rushy feeling and the price is very doable.

Would we recommend you guys to visit this restaurant? If you are an Asian food lover, you should definitely also come here to eat. Food, price, service and quality are...

Wir waren heute mit einer 14-köpfigen Truppe zum Abendessen da, um unser Geburtstagskind zu feiern. Es gab genug Platz für alle, und wir hatten das Glück, in einer schönen, ruhigen Ecke zu sitzen. Fast alle Mitarbeitenden sprechen fließend Vietnamesisch – fand ich super sympathisch.

Ich hab mir ein Black Pepper Beef bestellt, dazu ein Trà Bông (Jasmintee mit Rosen- und Jasminblüten, Rosensirup und Limette) und als Dessert ein Xoài Nếp Cẩm (Mango mit Klebreis).

Das Trà Bông kam als Erstes – richtig aromatisch und super lecker. Sah, ähnlich wie später dann auch die Hauptspeise, richtig gut aus!

Leider kam meine Hauptspeise fast direkt danach – also deutlich früher als die Gerichte der anderen. Als wir dann endlich alle gleichzeitig essen wollten, war mein Essen ungünstigerweise schon ziemlich kalt. Geschmacklich war’s gut, aber die Sichuan-Soße war für meinen Geschmack viel zu salzig. Richtig positiv fand ich allerdings, dass das Steak rare war und sogar noch Fettpolster und Bindegewebsschicht (englisch „silver skin“) dran hatte. In der westlichen Gastronomie wird sowas ja oft weggeschnitten – hier war’s noch dran. Find ich großartig.

Auch das Xoài Nếp Cẩm war wirklich sehr lecker. Der Klebreis hatte eine tolle Textur, die Soße war samtig und aromatisch, die Mango schön weich und süß – insgesamt einfach richtig gut!

Was ich mir aber wirklich gewünscht hätte: Dass die Hauptspeisen zeitgleich serviert worden wären. Mein Essen war, wie gesagt, schon kalt, als wir losgelegt haben.

Was mir außerdem aufgefallen ist: Die Kellnerin, die uns am Ende abkassiert hat, war deutlich genervt, als ein Dessert übrig blieb, das noch nicht bezahlt war. Ich hab mich sofort gemeldet und es beglichen, aber sie war trotzdem echt pissig. Sorry, ich bin auch nur ein Mensch? 😭

Klar, wir waren 14 Leute und haben einzeln bzw. in Paaren gezahlt – das ist sicher stressig. Aber was war die Alternative? Das Geburtstagskind einfach mal mit 700 € in Vorkasse gehen lassen? Wirklich keine Option.

Fazit: Bis auf die beiden Kritikpunkte – dass mein Essen kalt war und die unfreundliche Reaktion beim Bezahlen – war das Restaurant...
