This is a genuine review based on our stay at this hotel for 3 nights as a family including two adults and two kids.
There are lots of positives for this hotel. Firstly the studio room was very comfortable with the main bed being great and the sofa bed being not so bad either. The room was reasonably spacious and the kitchenette quite useful too. There is a fridge, a microwave, a dishwasher, a kettle, a few utensils, limited set of cutlery and crockery too. The window blinds are electrically operated which is quite cool too. There isn’t much of a view other than the street outside but no complaints as it was not unpleasant. One problem I found was the lack of a good head shower. There is only the hand shower mounted on a rod but it has a limited throw and quite disappointing. The other is that the water from the shower would spread onto the bathroom floor outside the shower cabin. Another issue was the lack of sound proofing in the toilet - a crank of the flush is enough to wake all sleeping members of the family outside!
The staff is helpful and courteous and accommodated our request for additional pillows and towels as best as they could. There is a laundry on the first floor but it needed some app to be installed for payments and not free.
The breakfast spread is decent and the ambience at the restaurant quite cosy. There were multiple types of bread that one would expect while in Germany, cold cuts, cheeses, juices, jams, cereals, yoghurts, doughnuts and croissants, eggs, bacon, mushroom, and a separate station for allergen free items too. Coffee machine too.
The location is an 8min walk from the Ottensen metro station covered by the S1 Bahn. Tickets can be purchased on the HVV app or at the station as well. The app offers a small discount and the group 9am ticket seemed the most cost effective for us. The walk seemed too much for us while lugging big suitcases - for this I wish the hotel would have a service to drop/pick people from the station for a fee - it would be much appreciated by travellers who have luggages I am sure!
The other thing about the location is the restaurants nearby - we went to a local pizza place that sold pizzas by the slice and it was fantastic! There is a huge supermarket just 100m from the hotel as well. There is also the restaurant in the neighbouring MOXY hotel. For tourists the lobby has flyers from museums and maps of Hamburg available for...
Read moreIf you're solo traveller who likes to rollover in the night, or a couple that likes to get fruity in the room, avoid. King = 2 Singles Beds.
Hotel is overall okay, connected to Moxy. Room was in decent condition, and handy having a full size fridge and kitchen area.
Generally staff were friendly, but management obviously don't care about guests.
The big Issue for me: Advertising a king bed, when in reality this is two singles pushed together with a mattress topper. As a solo traveller i tend to sleep in the middle of the bed, which resulted in me waking up taco'd between 2 mattresses on hard wood. Complained and assured the issue was resolved, i had the same problem night 2. Two very bad nights sleep. Third and fourth night forced myself to stay on one half, but was basically a single bed at that point.
I paid €1100 for 4 nights, and 50% was ruined, stakeholders in meetings asking me why i looked so tired. Hotel Management didn't even come out to meet me when i enquired about compensation, just sent lobby staff back 'they will do 3000' points, equivalent to €35 - how could i complain and negotiate with someone who doesn't have the position. Worst of all, It's been 3 weeks and points still not received, nor the 500 bonus.
I travel to Hamburg a lot, and would have booked for a 3 week stay coming up if this was resolved (both the points and the bed situation) as eating out for long trips gets exhausting, but less so than NOT sleeping!
Not a good experience if you have issues...
Read moreI actually stayed at the Moxy which is right next door. I originally had booked myself to stay at Residence Inn, but needed to change the date. When I changed my dates there was no vacancy for when I needed, so I booked next door, THANKFULLY. ||I needed to use some of the laundry facilities at Residence Inn which is on first floor. Upon entering the lobby of Residence Inn which HAS NO ATTENDANT, you notice a somewhat unpleasant smell. When arriving on first floor where laundry facilities are, you are then smacked hard in the face with even more unpleasant smell. The hall had many children toys and stroller laying about in the hallway which has not been vacuumed in some time. It seems there may be some long term tennants rather than hotel guests living on at least the 1st floor. ||This is very unfortunate for visitors. Keeping up with cleaning tasks seems to be very lacking at this Residence Inn Altona in Hamberg Germany. I was very disappointed and so glad I changed my booking to Moxy. ||I looked over the morning breakfast area while I was there. Dishes seemed unclean and I was hesitant to try anything there. If dishes you will eat on are not clean, I can only imagine what the kitchen...
