O Atlantico — Restaurant in Hamburg

The aioli had just the right amount of garlic and was home made, the bread was fresh and had a lovely crust, the rose housewine had the perfect temperature and the mineral water was local, the apricots in smoked bacon were crispy and the bacon of a lovely balance between fat and meat, the lamb was succulent and super tender, the squid fresh and the salad that came with it freshly cut and crunchy with fresh market veggies that were well spiced and Al dente. The bathrooms are super clean and the decor is lovely and romantic. The prices are incredibly reasonable for the amounts of food, the great quality and the lovely presentation. The owner was attentive and ever present with advice, accommodating and friendly, the staff polite and well trained. I can’t wait to come back - what a great experience to start the year. Absolutely horrible service and horrible experience We watched for two nights for a place to sit outside, but all tables were occupied. We went inside and ordered after a few minutes wait. Then, we saw that a table became free outside, so we asked our waitress if it was OK, and we moved outside within 2 minutes of ordering. Following that a very rude and nasty woman appeared at our table and asked in a very impolite tone whether we had ordered already. Then, she told us we had to move back inside. We left of course. I have travelled all over the world and eaten in restaurants for 40 years. I have never ever had such a horrible experience. This is a horrible place with horrible, rude staff. We went to O Atlantico Portuguese restaurant during a long weekend in Hamburg. We didn‘t book but just walked in on a Saturday evening. The place was busy but a couple of tables were free. We both had pasta with cream and mushrooms. Before the food we were served bread with a garlic dip which was nice. The main dish was good too. The service was fine and they all spoken English but let me try my broken German. My main criticisms are that the light is dim relying mainly on candles; the menu is very meat and fish orientated with little choice for vegetarians and those dishes didn‘t seem to be very Portuguese; the restaurant smelt very fishy; their is no menu available online to look at before going.
