Great place with amazing food and a nice service staff. If you're looking for a fast way to grab some fresh & delicious asian food while you're around the Karo Quarter, do not hesitate, just visit the Xeom in the Karolinenstraße. Right from the first look, with its metal tables and plastic stools, it catches the style and ambient of a vietnamese street food vendor perfectly. As we were sitting outside I only caught a glimpse from the inside through the window next to me. It's nice, with a modern touch. The walls have a kind of concrete look which fits right in with the street vendor theme from the outside. The staff is very welcoming but at the same time very unobtrusive. Even when lots of folks come by to eat, they don't rush you into ordering your drinks or food. You can take your time to decide what you want to eat/drink. The menu is not cluttered, there are a few entrés, a few main courses but no desserts. You can choose between soft drinks which consists mainly of homemade lemonades, hot drinks like tea & coffee and Cocktails/Longdrinks. My colleagues tried different lemonades which were all very refreshing and delicious. For myself I ordered a Xeom Mule, kind of a Moscow Mule but with rice vodka instead of normal vodka. I was also well made and very tasty. The food is phantastic ! It's fresh and tasty, with the right amount of spices added to it. The food is very grounded, nothing too fancy to it, just like you would get it from a street vendor in SE asia. As starter we took the fried spring rolls which were perfect, plain and simple. For the main course I decided for the crispy fried noodles and an extra portion of quay. Just minutes after we ordered we already got our orders brought to our table. You get a nice big bowl with lots of lots of vegetables/noodles and broth. Super delicious, even the warm/hot tomatoes. Normally I don't like warm tomatoes. The portion could have been a bit bigger, saved lunch yesterday, but you will leave pleasantly full. Another point towards Xeom is, the price ratio, there is no meal on the menu which exceeds 10€. I had the noodles, with the side and a cocktail and paid 17€. Super fair.
TL;DR: You want fresh & delicious asian...
Read moreVietnamese Street Cuisine is magnificent. For some strange reason there are only a few good street Vietnamese spots in Hamburg. Unlike in Berlin. Or in Ho-Chi-Minh city. So every new place is greeted warmly. Especially if it is in such a sweet location. On the edge of the Karo-Viertel, beneath the television tower and halfway to the beautiful gardens of ‘Planten & Blomen’ (check the Planten un Blomen article), there is the XeÔm. It just opened in May 2015.
The XeÔm is a classic street kitchen, with bright blue plastic chairs (the right kind), sticks and sauces on the tables, on the Hamburg pavement. The staff is super-friendly and relaxed. They offer a lot of classic dishes, like glass noodle salads, Phở and the best-of-Hanoi appetizers. Their specials are always… special. Also, try the homemade lemonades, iced green tea or a Vietnamese coffee. You can’t really do anything wrong here. Not in a place so right.
One nice extra is the sun, which shines on the outdoor tables from noon until 15:00. In the evening the sun reflects in the mighty windows of the exhibition hall. So, you still can wear your nice sunglasses when you slurp your Phở. Which is a good thing.
Even if it is too cold to sit outside, come and enjoy the food. This place actually has a really cosy indoor seating as well.
XeÔm also has take-away service.

Read moreI visited Xeom Vietnamese this evening with my girlfriend and it seemed like the evening would start out well, I have eaten here before and had good service. Unfortunately tonight was not the same due to a very rude server. We sat down and I ordered some summer rolls to start and left my girlfriend sitting at the table while I went to get cigarettes. It took more than 5 minutes as I had to come back for her ID as I was not used to German cigarette machines. As I finally came back my girlfriend politely asked how long the summer rolls would take and he responded "You just ordered two minutes ago" with a very aggressive tone. I let it slide as it was around 8pm and maybe he was tired and I have worked in the industry. My girlfriend then said she simply wanted to know the eta. (We have a new puppy at home and were hoping to be fast). This is where it gets very bad: He responded: " I don't know, how should I know I'm not in the kitchen" She was offended by his tone and asked to see a manager and he SPINNED AROUND AND SAID " Hi it's me"... This is the kind of service that makes someone never want to come back not because of the food or restaurant but due to a specific person. I hope to hear back that he does not work here and I will be happy to return and enjoy the...
