Extremely clean and spacious rooms with ensured privacy with the help of curtains. Place was inexpensive The staff was friendly. Bathroom were clean though some people staying there messed that up but not the hostels fault. The surrounding area is filled with restaurants catering to various price ranges. Not too far from tram line 3. The only let downs were: 1 bathroom for men and 1 for women for an entire floor of 6 rooms with 8 beds each. When i say 1 bathroom i mean a typical home bathroom with toilet sink and shower in one place. So if one person from one of the rooms is showering, everyone ( of said sex) has to wait, even to use the toilet. There is no kitchen and common room. So socialising does get limited/ difficult. Plus you can't make anything in the hostel ( coffee in the morning for example). For breakfast, while they dont offer it, they do have a tie up with a neighbouring cafe where you can prebook your meal before 5pm the previous day.
A small thing that needs to be rectified on their end is their check in timings on various platforms. I booked via a hostel app and there is said check in after 4. But their reception closes by 5. They clarified this to me stating the rooms get cleaned by 4 and it is still possible to receive your keys post 5. It was a bit confusing to me before this was clarified and maybe that would be something that vould be fixed with a quick message online but not a...
Read moreThis hostel had more of a 'shared hotel room' feel, vs a social hostel. Not a bad thing per se, but just need to know what you are getting. There is no common area room, so you'll just have to connect with your roommates. The people I shared the room with for 4 nights were all nice. My limited interaction with the staff was positive. The under bed lockers are decent size, if your pack is not one giant one. I had a 30 and 40 liter and they fit fine side by side. I am aware of only one male and one female toilet for the floor, but there might be more. The male toilet was only busy one time I wanted it, so I just used the female, as it was just a one at a time room. A nice feature is that the beds are premade, and towel is included. Bad pillow, but seems to be the norm in my limited Germany hostel experience. Giant and just fluffy, like a bag of cotton balls. The location is not unsafe, but is pretty "international", and heavy with drinking and graffiti. It is close to the train station, so there is quick access to the rest of the city. Hamburg had some pretty spots, but I wouldn't put it on my must visit list, or if so, 2 days is plenty. If you have to be in Hamburg for work or passing through, this place would be a good option for a...
Read moreI stayed two nights in a six bed mixed dorm, which actually really looks like it is shown on the pictures, for those who are as sceptical as I was when I saw those photos. It had a bathroom inside of the dorm, containing a toilet and a shower (massive and with a comfortably large rain shower), and a wash basin inside of the room for everyone accessible even when the bathroom was occupied. There also were two more bathrooms on the same floor outside of the room. ||The location of the hostel is right in the area of "Sternschanze" with U/S Sternschanze a two minute walk and the area around U St. Pauli a ten minute walk away. It is comfortably quiet at night, the beds are really comfy and thanks to the curtains for every bed, it's possible to sleep through the night even if your roomies come back later at night and need the light. ||Everything was nicely clean and in order. This hostel does coest a bit more than the average one in that area but as it almost resembles a hotel, that is a fair price in my opinion. I would definitely stay...
