After visiting for dinner and brunch, I can say confidently that this place had potential that went unrealized, sadly. The servers are friendly and helpful, which is a plus. The décor is nice, although the family-friendliness kills any "vibe" that it might have had (the screaming babies are louder than the music). Some of the food is tasty (the wurst, the chips, the overpriced and tiny but delicious steak sandwich). But some is not (eg, the very dry salt beef sandwich and the tasteless breakfast "burger", which has no actual hamburger meat in it). Generally, the tasty dishes are too small (and too expensive) and the more robust dishes just don't work. And then there are the drinks. This is where it really fails. The "cocktails" seem to be designed for teenagers, while there are no draft beers on offer, just a few mediocre bottles. This seems like a great place to bring your kids and a terrible place to have a nice, fun meal. There are also the long waits. That will presumably improve as less people go, unless they can course-correct. With a few key changes, this place could be banging: 1) use that great sound system! 2) police or remove unruly children; 3) consult with a beverage expert on a new cocktail menu and how to make it; 4) draft beer! 5) your "breakfast burger" needs to have an actual burger in it (and just be tastier--it was so bland!); 6) get rid of menu items that you can't get right; 7) no one should leave a restaurant hungry--the plates are generally too small (for the price); 8) a few more servers...
Read moreWe went there for Sunday Brunch recently.
The decor inside and the ambience with the high ceiling is just gorgeous. They should maintain this style for this restaurant. Lots of seating places and not at all cramped. The chairs and tables are very comfy.
The staff is absolutely kind and attentive. Very friendly too.
The brunch food is quite varied ranging from traditional European style breakfast to French and American type dishes. They dishes are prepared and served extremely beautifully. The taste is quite unique to all the dishes. The variety of dishes for brunch or lunch is quite unique and doesn’t exist in Jena. So this is definitely a plus huge selling point. Do try their espresso martini. The burgers are of course fantastic. The vegan etagere for brunch is absolutely huge and filling.
The prices of food kinda match the quantity. The price definitely matches the quality. The brunch cocktails are a bit on expensive side but not outside the market value for this kind of place.
Will definitely return to try all of their dishes.
Ps they have a huge vegetarian...
Read moreI recently visited Fritz Mitte in Jena Schlossgasse and was blown away by the food - it was not only eye-catching but also incredibly delicious. The service was also great, with the staff being very friendly and accommodating. The environment and decoration of the restaurant were also top-notch, making it a great spot for a night out with friends or a date.
However, one issue I had was with the payment process. While paying the bill, the staff asked for a tip which made me a bit uncomfortable. Additionally, the payment device for paying with a card is placed in front of the cashier which can feel a bit intrusive. Despite this, I still had a great experience at Fritz Mitte overall.
If you're looking for a restaurant with fantastic food and a great atmosphere, Fritz Mitte is definitely worth checking out. Just be aware of the payment process and make sure to have cash on hand if you prefer not to...
