Unfortunately we can no longer claim this as one of our top favorite restaurants in Germany. We typically come to the area twice per year, summer and winter, and we would always make at least one visit at the Postkeller restaurant. This last time will be the last time. We visited on 29 December 2024 with a reservation for four people that was made and confirmed on 11 December. When we arrived we were informed cash only. This is new but no big deal, walk to the atm. But they don’t have our name down. I show my email which seems to bother the man that met us at the bar. He ask us to wait for 10 minutes which is fine since I have to walk to get cash anyway.
Once seated we place our order, with the same man that “greeted” us, for drinks and food since everyone knows what they want. Three of us order the Postkeller pan, our favorite. We sit, and sit waiting and watching as trays with drinks come but not to our table. 15 or 20 minutes after ordering the salads come out with a female server who realizes we don’t have drinks. She drops off the salads and returns a few minutes later with water, my beer, and my wife’s glass of wine. Roughly another 15 minutes later the entrees arrive. At first I think they’ve brought the wrong dishes or another tables order because the three Postkeller pans have out of season tomato slices and chopped green onions on top of them. They usually come with a couple strips of bacon and melted cheese over a mushroom sauce. Sadly the pork medallions are also sitting on potato pancakes instead of spatzle. Mine doesn’t have much of the mushroom sauce, my son’s doesn’t have cheese. They are all disappointing. I’ve also finished my beer and I’m looking to order another because at least the beer hasn’t changed. However, we sit and eat, and wait, and watch as servers go and visit every table except ours, even when we try to wave for attention or discreetly call to one. The three tables around us all have second and even third orders for beer delivered.
In the end we skipped desert, got up from our table disappointed and still thirsty, and paid the bill to the exact amount. It is a shame the previous owners couldn’t keep going. It’s a shame they didn’t take more care to ensure their business was being left in good hands. It’s a shame the new owners made changes to the menu, in ways they seem to only cheapen the food but while also raising prices. It’s a shame this restaurant that used to be a family favorite, a place I’d tell everyone going to Mittenwald to try is no longer a place I wish to visit again. In truth the service always left something to be desired but the good beer, good food, at what seemed a fair price for what you received made us over look it. Now there is just nothing good to say about the...
Read moreUnfortunately I have to give just one star cause I was sooo disappointed ( great place and potential). The service of course tried the best, but they were just a few people, they definitely need more stuff in there. The burger was written in the menu MEDIUM and I even personally asked about it, but it came WELL DONE🥺. The meat was very not tasty and poor quality 😨 The 🍺 was delicious, and place looked nice, stuff busy but generally friendly, but sorry the hamburger cannot be called medium when it is hard, cooked and disqusting and not so cheap either. I mean probably they have good food there but we just were...
Read moreAbsolutely top experience! Highly recommended!
The waitress was extremely friendly and attentive.
We ordered a pumpkin soup as a starter, it was perfect. Then, I had the 1/2 duck - honestly, the best duck I've ever had, having lived in Germany for over 5 years now and that being one of my favourite dishes.
Also to be noticed is that the dumpling ("Knödel"), which I find delicious when homemade but awful in restaurants, was also wonderful.
Quality/price is top notch and definitely worth a trip from Munich.
Ps. I haven't tried the beers as I was driving, but they seem to be excellent too, all by a...
