After arriving in Monschau and checking in at our accomodation, we spent some time looking for a restaurant for dinner. We like to try to pick something that stands out if we can, and want local cuisine and produce if we can choose. This time we were so incredibly lucky to choose Restaurant Rur-Café. From we sat down we were treated lovely by the owner, and sole staff taking orders and serving. Despite being very busy, managing all the guests, we always felt like there was time for our questions and we felt well taken care of. Excellent service in a lovely atmosphere. The room we were in was very cosy and the decor looked original and well maintained. The menu choices were as you would expect with everything home cooked. A little bit less than in a chain restaurant, but everything made with love and passion, and the food really reflected that. From the amuse-bouche in the form of a heavenly tomato soup with a hint of chili (I would drink this from a stein if I could) to the delicious onion and mushroom soups. Our main dishes were a lovely venison goulash, so tender and tasty, served with spätzle and a side of apple compote, and the pork medallions with the chefs mustard sauce, which I particularly loved. Hats off to the chef. Oh, and the fries were perfectly cooked, and the side salad deserves a mention as well. I really love the German way of making these salads with the delicious vinaigrette type dressing. For dessert we were unfortunately not able to try the strudel as it was so popular that they ran out. Of course with everything home made it can happen, and it was no hardship, because the eischocolate and vanilla and chocolate sundae was very good , and a worthy finale. As you can tell, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience, and truly appreciated the hard work gone into the setting and serving, as well as the cooking and preparations. All the best!

Amazing German restaurant! Family owned and the owner was the one who sat us and served us food. She was very friendly and helpful. The food was so delicious. And we even got a pre-meal appetizer, a tomato soup that was to die for. SO good! Even if you don't like tomato soup, you will like this one. We were very happy with this place. We did not have a reservation, we just walked in and we were a group of 6.

Decided to give this place a try for lunch and even though we were after lunch hours they accommodated us. We speak English and little German but the hostess ended up speaking English which was helpful. I highly recommend. Great food and beer. The pepper soup included with the meal was amazing. I would eat here again if I was in the area. Fries were perfectly cooked.

Rur-Cafe was literally our saviour on a Sunday evening as all other restaurants starting closing their kitchen at 7 PM!! The food was outstanding- everything so flavourful! The complimentary tomato au-gratin is best soup we’ve ever had! The pesto noodles/pasta was perfectly made with subtle flavours of pesto (probably the only vegetarian dish on the menu) and the fried fish had balanced seasoning and exquisitely cooked. Very surprised to find fine dining food quality in a small town like Monschau. They were very busy and the service was on the slower side but that worked perfectly for us as we were not in a hurry. The friendly lady server was so patient and smiling while handling all the tables in the restaurant! Thumbs up and would highly...

I took a group here to eat a few years ago. We enjoyed a multi-course meal on a cold, dark night. It was truly magnificent. Probably one of the best meals I've eaten in Europe (I used to live there and have been many times). It is a family owned place. They even arranged for people they know to drive some of our older folks up the hill to our hotel on a very cold, rainy night. They did this last minute after our group enjoyed a delicious meal there for 3 hours. Everyone. Loved. It. If you are in Monschau, this is where you eat. No need to look further. Great food. Great people. Great memory. I will always come back here when...
