Sunday morning in Munich. What better way to kick off the day than with a good breakfast? That was the plan – and we ended up here, ordering one classic and one Bavarian breakfast. Alongside came a small coffee and a large bottle of water.
Let’s start with the Bavarian plate: it was… meh. The white sausages were surprisingly bland – lacking that savory punch you’d expect in a city like Munich. They could’ve used a touch more salt and a whole lot more depth. Even the pretzel felt like it had either been reheated too early in the morning or forgotten from the night before. No crunch, no soul.
The classic breakfast platter had a decent selection of cold cuts, but nothing that made you want to grab your phone for a pic. Honestly, in Munich I’d expect a few slices of cold 'Leberkäse' to round it out. And for the first time ever, we didn’t finish the Obatzda. It leaned way too heavy on the cheese side and lacked that signature balance of paprika and spice. Also – is it too much to ask for a slice of cucumber or tomato? A couple red onion rings on the Obatzda wouldn’t hurt either.
Service? Let’s say it didn’t exactly rise with the sun. Asking for a second bread basket turned into a patience exercise. And when you drop 50 euros (yes, including a rather humble tip) on breakfast and feel like the experience didn’t even scratch your expectations – you start to wonder.
Bonus heartbreak: discovering that the 'Reithalle' (riding hall) has now been replaced by some trendy sport concept. The soul of the place? Definitely missing in action. Maybe start with coaching the staff – when the two blonde ladies at the front desk are chilling on the lobby sofa instead of keeping things running smoothly, something’s clearly off.

Read moreThis is the only place I've dined at (so far in 2 weeks) in Munich that has "requested" a tip during checkout. During a credit card checkout, my waiter paused and wouldn't set up the card reader (with the amount to be charged) and said "tip is not included" before waiting for my response. I felt very pressured and taken advantage of as I was dining alone and had accepted the English menu that they offered in the beginning.
Multiple friends who have lived in Munich for 3-5 years have also confirmed that they had never encountered a comment like that. They found the situation especially baffling as I had ordered 3 drinks (a water, an iced tea, and a glass of wine) in addition to a main course, at a restaurant that seemed very overpriced already. (Compared to other places in Munich, the food or service was not outstanding to me at all.)
I was fully aware that tips are optional and usually rounded up to the next Euro... I ended up tipping American style as a courtesy (and already regret it) but will not be visiting ever again.
Otherwise — the interior design was nice and the atmosphere was very fancy but relaxed. I was seated on the patio that seemed nice at first, but (bc there is a stable on their premises) ended up having to smell horse manure whenever the wind blew a certain way. There was also constantly flies everywhere, especially when main courses arrived... the table next to me was literally eating with flies on their plates, hands, and table simultaneously. The food (Milanese Risotto with saffron, brazilian peppertree, and burrata) was ok (singular flavor) but extremely hard to enjoy under the circumstances.
TL;DR Not worth the money. So many other...
Read moreThe service and experience I had here inspired me to leave my first review ever. The interior decoration is nicely done; however.
Upon arrival to a virtually empty restaurant, me and my younger group who was dressed a bit more casually were instantly made to feel judged.
Repeatedly we were asked if we were actually here to dine, three different members of the waitstaff approached us after seating and asked us if we would actually like to see a menu or we were just here to have drinks.
In retrospect maybe we should have heeded their warning.
The schnitzel was pretty good however both of the burgers we ordered came from the kitchen completely raw, as someone who eats a lot of quite rare meat I can assure you that these burgers were barely cooked in the middle. Essentially raw ground beef.
One of my group ate it out of respect however the other’s was a touch too raw.
Three out of the five things we ordered were of barely edible quality. The waiter was consistently rude and refused to be friendly despite us being in good spirits and genuinely ruined our day.
Splitting the bill seemed like an impossible task. The food ended up being ridiculously expensive and after the service was quite consistently terrible and being treated rudely we even tipped two euros but the the waiter actually had the audacity to mention it not being enough of a tip and then we tipped him out of pity.
Never in my life have I been guilted into tipping someone after being treated rudely. Not meeting the basic minimum edible standard and then demanding more of a tip afterwords.
However the...
