I needed an early breakfast and this restaraunt was close to my friend 's place which opens early and was top rated on google (Now I realise how misleading these things can be when you just go along with ratings without reading detailed reviews).
The restaraunt opens at 8:30am and I was there by 8:40am. One of the staff at the bar asked if I have reservation and I told them I don't have any and he pointed his finger upstairs. I went on the first floor and the entire floor was empty. Just as I was deciding to sit down on which table for the better view, another staff (I'm assuming he is the head waiter as he was checking the reservations later) came and said that since I don't have reservation I can't sit here and have to wait downstairs. I went along with him thinking he might need to check details before offering me a table.
After few minutes, he told me he can only offer a chair at the bar as "this is what is available right now". Honestly if i hadn't seen the entire first floor empty I would have presumed that the restaraunt might be booked or they might be waiting for guests. For the life in me, I couldn't understand why they would not let me sit at one of the empty tables in their restaurant and pretend as if there is no table available. There were two tables empty on the ground floor as well.
It was raining and cold outside so I didn't want to argue and decided to have something before leaving. The head waiter gave me a menu and left. It was in German and I was using Google translate to understand the menu. The first guy with whom I spoke saw me struggling and asked if I needed an English menu. (So the head waiter knew I spoke English and they had an English menu yet didn't bother to give me one). I thanked the other guy who was kind to a stranger and I had mediterranean scrambled eggs. I wanted to order more before I had come to this place but I was feeling so low that they didn't give me a table despite the floor being empty that I just lost my apetite. I honestly thought that they had some restaraunt policy for reservation.
While I was waiting for the food, there were two women (who spoke German) who came there and were asked for reservation and they didn't have any because they said 'Nien' and I did understood that part (and googled as well) and they were taken upstairs. I thought maybe I don't speak German and that could be an issue. This was followed by one group of people who only spoke English and they were asked for reservation and they said 'no' and they were taken upstairs as well.
Sadly, I realised I was the only person of brown colour there and rest all who were given tables were Caucasian. This is my first experience of facing racism while travelling solo in Europe and it left me feeling miserable.
Honestly I don't know how the food was because I felt so discriminated and alone that I couldn't enjoy my food and I should have left without ordering but I have never faced racist behaviour earlier so I just didn't know what to do. Before leaving the restaraunt, I asked that one kind staff member as to why I was not given a table upstairs thinking if he can provide some answer. He was trying to be kind (as he doesn't decide who gets table) and told me that they have reservation all day and they can't provide table as someone with reservation might come along. I would have believed this answer if I hadn't gone upstairs and saw how empty it was followed by three Caucasian persons who were taken upstairs for a table who came after me.
Sumptuous food and presentation is only part of the dining experience but treating your customers with respect is of utmost importance. I have gone to Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels and everywhere in restaurants people have always tried to accomodate us unless they absolutely can't, especially to a single woman.
I just want to say that the management really needs to train their staff, especially the head waiter about respecting and prioritizing customers . This was my first dining experience in Germany and it was...
Read moreTerrible experience with the rudest waiter in the world. The absolute worst restaurant experience ever!!
Came here for a solo dinner while in Munich on a business trip. The staff just hangs out and are almost annoyed when someone walks in. My waiter who also calls himself the ‘manager’ is totally class-less, uneducated and ill-mannered. He wouldn’t explain the menu, made me order something I didn’t want to order and then when I asked him to switch it to what I actually wanted to order he said NO because he had already placed the order.
I told him to charge me for the drink I had, and he said I would have to pay for the food as well even though it wasn’t even ready yet and he made me order it. It made absolutely no sense!
He kept arguing with me, so I asked for the manager. He told me he was the manager. Since he was clearly more focused on arguing than solving the issue, I asked him to call the police. I wasn’t going to sit there and argue with him.
Anyway, the back and forth continued and it became clear that this establishment is homophobic and xenophobic. Many times they made derogatory comments about my being from the USA, where you CAN order what you want and service is polite and efficient (for the most part), saying that I was rude and privileged. The older waited (so called manager) called me a Karen because I wanted to speak to his superior about this and find some resolutions since he was being completely irrational. I found his comment quite petty and immature for someone up there in age as he was.
I insisted I wanted to pay for my drink and he wouldn’t take my money and told me to leave, so I did. Not before insisting a few more times that I wanted to pay for my drink. He kept saying leave, leave...so I left and walked into the restaurant next door (L'Osteria). Shortly after, the triggered waiter/'manager' ambushed me in the neighboring restaurant with another waiter and threatened to call the police. I told them many times to do so but they wouldn’t. I offered to walk with them back to Cotidiano to try and pay for my drink. We went back to Cotidiano but again they wouldn’t let me pay for the drink and kept saying to pay for the food I never had. The older waiter/'manager' kept calling me a Karen while they cornered me inside the restaurant's tiny foyer trying to force me to come in, like they were ready to attack me. I finally said to them if they're not going to call the police then I would leave. They didn't call the police, so I left.
In conclusion, the waitstaff at Cotidiano is unprofessional, irrational and absolutely low class and some of the rudest people I have EVER encountered in my life. If you are LGBT...
Read moreCotidiano in Pasing, conveniently located at the Pasinger Marienplatz, offers both indoor and outdoor seating, making it a versatile spot for any weather. This cafe/bistro serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with an appealing menu that balances sweet and savory delights.
The quality of the food is good, and their menu emphasizes their use of quality ingredients. The toasted dark bread with creamy curry hummus and grilled vegetables paired perfectly with the sunny-side-up eggs that added a luxurious richness to the meal.
The drink selection doesn't disappoint either. The Green Yuzu Holuneeer Tea was zingy and refreshing, while the chai latte provided a warmly spiced, comforting experience.
However, despite the delightful food and drinks, the pricing and service significantly impact the overall experience. The portions are quite small relative to the high prices, which might leave you still feeling a bit hungry. Additionally, the service, while friendly, was very slow; we experienced a nearly 30-minute wait for our relatively simple toasts.
If you're in no rush and not too concerned about the cost, it's worth a visit for its...
