Restaurant Shiraj — Restaurant in Munich

If you are VEGAN DO NOT COME HERE. They LABEL MEALS with MILK PRODUCTS AS VEGAN

They have "Vegan" Meals that are actually not vegan. This was my experience: I came with my boyfriend's family and friends (they are not vegan) , Me and my boyfriend ordered Samosas, which on the Menu were clearly labeled as Vegan, and we ate them. Then when our main courses arrived, we all got as side dish the same looking sauces as they have put on top the samosas. I got a little suspicious because they were looking the same and ask the waiter ( I think he was the owner) whether the sauces had any milk products and then he said it contained milk cream, I still didn't ask whether they were the same sauces on the samosas, because i had the feeling he was going to lie to me. So i waited 20 min and asked another waitress, whether those were the same sauces on top the Samosas and she said yes, then i asked again whether it does contained milkproducts and she said it contained normal yogurt, so i started complaining myself because on the menu the meal was label as vegan and it is clearly not, and they tried to blame it on me, because i did not specify that i was vegan, which does not make any sense to me. You do not go and order a  meal from the vegetarian menu and then say "I'm vegetarian, please do not put any meat on my plate". The waiter was very rude, he talked in a very rude tone and said  "what can we do?", he said that people make mistakes and they were not going to charge me the meal and  that  i should forget it. Like it was not important at all. 30 minutes later he comes back with shots and asks me what do vegans eat, so i explained him that we would not eat any products that come from animals, and he said "oh, nothing then". Then the father of my boyfriend told him, they should be careful with what they sell because someone who has a serious allergy to animal products such as dairy or eggs could sue them if they keep doing that, and he got rude again and said they were taking the vegan label out of the menu then. What an awful experience, really shocking and...

Update Feb 2021: They have mastered the take out service so that the meal is both flavorful and packaged well so it is nice and warm even after a 10 minute ride home. Great food, great service.

Stiill my favorite and one of the best Indian restaurants in the Munich area. The spacious interior setting they always had in the past makes it very comfortable for guests concerned about social distancing. Flavorful meals, excellent service and a very relaxing atmosphere. The perfect combination of value and comfort.

They are offering take-away during the COVID-19 restaurant restrictions. A big plus for Shiraj when it comes to pick-up is they have plenty of space to turnaround and park in the driveway to the left side of their entrance. A plus to their already flavorable dishes if you'd rather drive to pick up your meal instead of having some questionable character deliver it on a bike.

Shiraj is one of the best Indian restaurants, regardless of where in the world. It is even ahead of my favorite London Indian restaurant - where there are some really top places. Clearly one of the best in Munich in terms of flavor, quality and service. Easily accessible by public transport, lots of room with adequate space between tables. I've been here 10 years ago, ordered a takeaway lunch item and it was terrible. Fast forward to the evening, I decided to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt and try it again, hoping it will change my mind, it did not. The person who sat me down didn't seem at all enthusiastic. I ordered a large soft drink thinking that it will be different from what's shown on the menu with the (Kindergläser) I.e. anything less than 0.5 litres. I got a small cup instead. Usually other Indian restaurants will give a small soup or papadums as a small appetizer, this one didn't. So came my chicken Tikka, which actually wasn't half bad but honestly wasn't the best I've had. With all of this compounded, I will definitely not be coming back here. I left 2 stars because the main course that came out at the end wasn't so bad. P.s., if you like sitting in claustrophobic places, this will be the place for you.
