Benslips — Restaurant in Paderborn

Decent baked products and I would have rated 3 or 4. But rating it two, because there is this old lady who sales the product, she is really rude.

As I am still learning German, I was trying my best to order in German but what she said was too fast for me to understand. And I did not understand it quickly. But the way she was reacting it was really shocking and it was embarrassing in front of other customers. I wanted to order some pieces of cakes but after seeing how she is treating me, I just left with bread. While returning back the money, she was making faces and kind of arrogant body language as well.

P.S: I literally stepped out thinking that she may be having a bad day and I was giving a benefit of doubt and I was looking for other bakery nearby to get some pastries but that's when a guy stopped me (who was in the shop behind me) and he told me that she has done this before with others too as he is a regular customer there and I should not take it personally.

So, I will only shop again if and only if she is not there at the counter. Or else there are other bakeries around me and I would happily walk few steps further and buy things...

Well it was previously but I have to say that last Saturday afternoon, 6 Jul 19, I did not have a good customer service experience! Read on!

I called into Benslips,whilst waiting for a bus,to have a cup of tea. Of the two ladies behind the counter one turned away from me to look at bread loaves and turn one around. She then asked what I wanted but did not understand when I asked for a cup of tea, I spoke in German. The second lady then asked what I wanted and accepted my order for a cup of tea but stopped serving me when a woman with two children came in who then proceeded to place a large order ahead of me. I have to admit I gave a huge 'harrumph' at the 'unhöflich' behaviour and left. Was it racism, rudeness or just a case of forgetting that she was already serving someone? I don't know but I certainly didn't feel wanted. It is a shame because overall there appears to be positive reviews which makes the behaviour all the more unfathomable. Zurückversetzt in die gute alte Zeit! Heute nach Feierabend ca. 15:40 Uhr war ich bei Benslips. Normalerweise nicht mein Weg, aber da Sonntag ist und die meisten Bäcker um diese Zeit schon geschlossen haben , war ich hier. Bestellt habe ich ein Baseler Brot. Eigendlich lasse ich Brote immer auf 9mm schneiden, aber die sehr freundliche Verkäuferin riet mir doch besser zu etwas dickeren Scheiben, damit das Brot nicht zerreist. Ok, also 12mm. Ab nach Hause. Heute Abend zum Abendbrot dieses Baseler Brot augepackt. Die Kannte sofort mit Butter und Leberwurst beschmiert, bevor es an die "Stullen" für morgen für die Arbeit geht. (kann mann ja schon mal so zwischendurch wegmümmeln) Nun passiert das, wieso ich hier so einen Aufsatz schreibe. Auf einen Schlag zurückversetzt in meine Kindheit. Ich, ein Kind der 80er.... die "Atomkraft nein Danke" Bewegung ist gerade in aller Munde, Helmuth Kohl wird Bundeskanzler und Alle inetressieren sich auf ein Mal total für die Umwelt und Strieckpullies :) Ich bin gerade in den Kindergarten gekommen. Zu Hause wird noch richtig gebacken (ohne Thermomix etc.) und mein Vater backt hin und wieder ein Bauernbrot im Backofen. Richtig mit kneten, ruhen lassen auf dem Radiatorheizkörper und dann in den Ofen. Nun dauert es, (ich weiß nicht mehr genau wie lange) ich sag mal 90 Min. Der Duft des Brotes zieht durtch die ganze Wohnung. Im Fehrnsehen läuft, "Luzi, der Schrecken der Strasse" oder "Einer wird gewinnen". Irgendwann ruft Papa also: "Das Brot ist fertig" Nun schnell in die Küche und den Kanten abgegriffen bevor es mein Bruder macht. Was eine tolle Erinnerung......... Nun zurück zu heute. Ich beiß also in den Kanten des gerade eilig beschmierten Baseler Brotes mit Butter und Leberwurst. Nun folgt der Zeitsprung in die Kindheit.... dieses fluffige und doch knackige Brot mit der schönen dunklen Kruste, an der noch das gebackene Mehl außen sitzt, und diesen "genau so muß es sein Geschmack" . WIE GEIL!!!

Danke für diese Geschmacks-Erfahrung und für dieses Brot. Ich habe heute Abend mit meiner Frau bis auf 3 Scheiben alles verputzt und komme morgen ein neues kaufen, nach der Arbeit 15:00...
