I recently had the unfortunate opportunity to visit Paulusbogen, and I must say, it was a complete disaster. Our simple request to sit at a table outside seemed to be an unbearable burden for the staff. The person attending to us, who seemed to be in charge, displayed a shocking level of rudeness and lack of hospitality.
We were informed in a condescending tone that they had wanted to close the terrace two hours ago but were still receiving customers. While I understand that the staff may have been tired and overwhelmed, their behavior was completely unacceptable. Rather than politely explaining the situation or offering a sincere apology, they made us feel unwelcome and treated us as if we were an annoyance.
This encounter completely soured our mood and ruined what should have been an enjoyable outing. It is essential to remember that a dining experience is not solely about the food and drinks; the quality of service and how customers are treated play a crucial role as well. Even in challenging circumstances, a small gesture like a smile or a friendly word can make a significant difference. Unfortunately, this aspect was sorely lacking at Paulusbogen.
I have no intention of returning to this establishment, and I cannot, in good conscience, recommend it to anyone. Unless you have a desire to be treated poorly and have your mood ruined, I would strongly advise seeking out other options in the area. There are plenty of establishments that prioritize excellent service and treat their customers with respect. Save yourself the disappointment and frustration by avoiding Paulusbogen...

My dad found this place during a midday stroll in the city of Passau, looked at the menu and recommended it to the family. By the first look of it we were debating whether you are paying for the location and the view or the food. Well both, but it’s absolutely worth it.
We ended up coming back three nights in a row. Let me start with the fact that you can book a table online! Not a given in Germany. The location of the restaurant is incredible. It’s in the middle of the old town just by the Danube. The view is amazing and if you are lucky the flowers by the terrace are in full bloom. The service was beyond excellent. The waitress with the Mia Wallace hair cut seriously deserves a raise. She is the most competent waitress, I met, in the past 10 years at least. Speaks perfect English, professional, pays attention, double checks the orders, and has a sense of humor. I was considering asking for her details so I may hire her one day. The cuisines are bistro style, very yummy, not overcomplicated but still modern. Love! They payed attention to my allergies, which are a challenge for me and the restaurant in the same time and even though we had a bit of miscommunication on the second night, they corrected it with a smile and an apology without question. (Again very nice staff.) The ambiance inside is warm, inviting, clean and modern. The music choice was excellent on Sunday and Monday.
All in all just we are just very happy and grateful for the experience. If we are in Passau again we...
Read moreIt is a nice mid range B&B - English visitors wouldn't call this a Hotel. Rooms comfortable but basic and dated. Staff very helpful and professional. Restaurant is very good. Breakfast is excellent. The entrance is confusing. You can park outside for half an hour to unload. Then you climb twenty steep steps. Then you find a tiny lift installed in 1975 but regularly checked by TUV. The reception is through the restaurant. So you lug your cases watched by the diners. You're advised by staff that between 18:00 and 09:00 you can use the coach parking opposite. What no one tells you is that people later park all over the pavement. So the car in front of you is now blocked in. You sit down for dinner. And then you hear the police are about to tow your legally parked car. Then you get surly 1970s cop sarcasm, general silliness and point scoring. So if you haven't got second sight, park in the Parkhaus. It's all the way around the one way system again, about 3 miles round trip. They never attempted to tow or ticket. It happens most nights. It happened again tonight. Children will be children. Don't use this hotel if you have any mobility issues. Beware of the chaotic, counterintuitive traffic system in Passau. Best advice is visit Veste Oberhaus, have lunch there and leave for another city. Provincial tourist trap with some...
