We loved the ambiance here and the staff was super professional and kind. We were looking for local fare but they offered rather new takes on traditional recipes and you couldn't order just the basics, which is fine but not what we were expecting. The food was not as tasty as it sounded in the menu or looked, but it was decent. The portions were enormous and neither of us could finish our plates- mine with the mountain of lentils and local dumplings (Maultaschen) enough for two or three meals and my friend's with deep fried dumplings. While everything looked amazing and the wine selection was good, the flavors weren't that impressive. I mostly just tasted heavy cheese and lentils, and his tasted like fried food instead of the beautiful ingredients underneath all those heavy things. We've been sampling a lot of restaurants around the area and have definitely been more impressed at other places. However, the environment in the historical building and the staff make this place definitely worth a visit. I'm sure there are other things on the menu worth trying.

I reaaally wanted to like this place so bad; cute atmosphere and kind people but clearly they were understaffed for the dinner service. After waiting for awhile, we came to find out that my Zweibelrostbraten (roastbeef) was severly undercooked on one side (usually where the yummy fat part is) not warm, and I asked for medium rare. They didn't have steak knives so I was desperately trying to cut through the raw beef with a butter knife. After awhile we took a stab at the other side and it was what we ordered -- medium rare. Yay! But needless to say we were already pretty disturbed at that point haha.

The food was great, but took forever to get served. They apologized and provided a round of aperitifs, which they didn't need to do but it was definitely appreciated and part of the reason service is a 5. We started with the tartar and it was very good, a lot of flavors centered around the fresh beef. I had their special chicken thighs and the potatoes with a yoghurt sauce, they were amazing. Crispy outside on the chicken and still a tender center. Cool place near downtown, too.
