For those seeking an authentic Japanese ramen experience in Stuttgart, "Umami Ramen" comes highly recommended.
The restaurant is ideally situated in the heart of the city centre, making it a perfectly convenient destination for a meal while exploring the urban landscape. The accessibility of its location is a notable advantage for both residents and visitors alike.
The authenticity of the experience was further affirmed by the presence of what appeared to be Japanese chefs in the kitchen, adding a layer of credibility to the culinary execution.
The dish I ordered was the Tonkotsu ramen, and I had some initial reservations due to a personal preference for less salty cuisine. However, these concerns were quickly put to rest. The broth was not excessively salty and presented a beautifully balanced flavour profile, demonstrating a masterful command of taste.
The accompanying pork topping was seasoned to perfection, avoiding the common pitfalls of being either too dry or overcooked. Its texture was tender yet retained a satisfying bite, and the noodles themselves were cooked al dente, complementing the broth wonderfully and creating a harmonious overall taste.
If one is unable to embark on a journey of over 13 hours to Japan to authentic ramen, a visit to Umami Ramen offers an excellent and highly satisfying...
Read moreToday, our group of five visited Umami Ramen Restaurant, eager for a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, our visit was marred by incredibly poor service from one of the waitresses.
Upon arrival, we requested an extra chair so we could sit together. This simple request was met with a terrible attitude. The waitress nearly "threw" the chair at us, which we initially tried to overlook. However, the bad service continued. When we asked for the menu and our drinks, she slammed them onto the table and said nothing.
At this point, we decided to confront her and asked what her problem was. She shrugged her shoulders and curtly responded with "nichts" (nothing in German), then turned away without any further explanation.
We asked to speak with the manager, who was apologetic and took over our table. The rest of our experience was fine under his service. The food was good, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was enjoyable.
It's unfortunate that our visit was tainted by one staff member's unprofessional behavior. Despite the manager's apology and improved service thereafter, we never received an apology from the waitress herself. It's a shame because this could have been a perfect visit. I hope the restaurant addresses this issue to prevent it from happening to...
Read moreSecond visit 2025: Had again ramen #2 with pork and addition of extra spicy. Still very nice and filling and very nice also that I don't think the price changed! Followed by a nice sesame and matcha ice cream that they say it's home made. Would do the job to attenuate the spicy and perhaps could be made also as a sorbet (this one was milk, I asked). And cool angry samurai cat pillow! -- where can I get one?
Original 2022: You cannot reserve a table, so I dropped by spontaneously. I ordered a vegetables Gyoza as appetizer, the Kara Miso ramen and the standard Kirin Ichiban Japanese lager. The waitress was very kind and efficient as she showed me the pictures of all the ramens to help me decide, although she couldn't describe what kind of beer the Ichiban is. The appetizer arrived very quickly and I found it very delicate and with a crunchy side. Before I could even finish it (not sure whether this was intentional) the ramen arrived. I left the last Gyoza for later but the ramen was so piping hot and I could have finished my appetizer without rush. The ramen itself was very warming and spicy enough. Every component of it was at the right level of cooking to my taste and very filling. All together, out of there in less than one hour with happy mood, belly and...
