I am not quite sure what this hotel is trying to be, but it is having a bit of an identity crisis.
The check-in process is unnecessarily awkward. You walk up to the desk like you would in any hotel, then you are asked to check in on a tablet integrated into the desk. Not sure what the benefit with this is, but I used it anyway. Then to my surprise it had none of our details saved at all, so I had to spend time typing out my address, name, email address, all of which they would have already known from when I booked online. During this time, the staff have to stand there awkwardly looking at you and the queue building behind you. This saved absolutely no time at all, and then at the end when it gives you a room key, we had to ask for a second one which someone had to do for us manually!
The bar is nicely chilled and lit for an evening drink, but this bit doubles up as the breakfast area and the main walkthrough to the lifts, and I'm not sure how I would feel about eating in almost darkness.
The corridors are also dimly lit with dark carpets and black painted walls... I can see what they have tried to do, but then enter the room and you are met with bright white on every wall and eye straining spotlights! Wrong way round! The room is where I will be relaxing and chilling, not the corridors or the foyer!
An absolute pet hate of mine is the over-complicated assortment of dimming light switches that all seem to do 100 different things depending how you press them in what order, and as I discovered, if your partner wants rest and you head out to the shop in the evening and leave the lights on dim for them, when you re arrive at the room and swipe your card, the room brightens up to maximum without you asking it to!
The air conditioning was hugely complicated and didn't work properly, neither of us ever got it to settle on a temperature, and after an hour or so it would default to 35 degrees and make it unbearably hot. We eventually gave up, turned it off, and left the window open for our entire stay. Thank goodness it wasn't summer.
The sink is inexplicably in the bedroom opposite the bed, not in the bathroom. This then takes up a large amount of space where a desk could be, but instead they have crammed a tiny flat 'desk' surface in the corner by the window that is far too small to consider doing work at. The bathroom has a shower that is adorned with 2 full length glass panels that look directly into the bedroom, so make sure you and your roommate are happy with that before you book. There is nowhere to put your suitcases to unpack, so we ended up resting ours on the bed which is not ideal, and there is no wardrobe, just some hangers on a wall with small hooks. Not impressive for somewhere that is portraying a luxury stay.
The staff are, however, very polite, and always said good morning/afternoon etc, and they seem happy working there, which is a good sign. The location is pretty good too, it is a few minutes walk from the S-Bahn and U-Bahn. A fair selection of places to go for food and drink within easy walking distance.
I wouldn't stop here again personally, just because the room and hotel design felt strange and not particularly relaxing. Maybe if it was a considerably cheaper option and I was stopping...
Read moreFew public spaces in the world can accommodate you with the sublime vibes & confidence of the Ruby Hanna Hotel & Bar. While many visitors will be there for a stay in the hotel, I myself frequent Ruby Hanna for the recursive passerby experience of a safe haven to study in its Workspace at the heartbeat of Stuttgart. The muted interior with its vintage and acoustic aesthetic contrasts the busy commercial streets right outside of its big beautiful tinted windows.
You can stand, you can sit, you can pace, you can watch, and you can find grace in your own composition somewhere in the various set pieces throughout Ruby. There are plenty of outlets to plug your devices and plenty of lamps to cultivate your own sense of intensive focus. The execution is pure cinema with a bold portrait of tomorrow's future workforce full of many faces from many nations who all carry beautiful smiles with an eagerness to assist all who seek their services.
You may be met with the confident leadership of Nikki, Cat, or Isi. You may be served a fine drink by the charmingly beautiful Delia, Jade, or Magda. You may speak to a variety of the staff possessing the same sense of charisma such as Mirik, Mona, Sardar, Leah, and Welesh. The names go one and on; You meet them and want to get to know them. You feel safe with them, and you feel secure with them. Professionalism is of the highest order and reflects some of the very best that a European experience can offer.
I write this review to express my sincere gratitude and humble appreciation for the impression that is Ruby.
Special Thanks to Delia and Nikki for allowing me to photograph them for...
Read moreI am (still) having a wonderful experience at this hotel and would highly recommend it. I need to highlight the staff is the biggest selling point, 10/10. Namely, Bohdan, Kais, and Julia have been outstanding hosts. They have been kind, courteous, and interesting to chat with. The other staff have all been wonderful and go above and beyond. On a work trip, it is so nice to come back to this environment. Location-wise, you can't really beat it. Very central, attached to a shopping mall, very walkable area with food options. Driving-wise it's centrally located and the traffic isn't miserable. The breakfast is good, everything you need and includes coffee (like an Americano, espresso, crema, etc.). The bar has great selection. The lobby is beautifully decorated, very hipster and fun, warm low lighting, cozy. The room is very comfortable and streamlined and trendy decor. If I had to complain about one thing, the hotel doesn't have dedicated parking so you must use the parking garage or street parking which can be a bit of a walk and a tad pricey but not much more than you'd pay at a hotel with dedicated parking. There are work spaces I haven't used but at a glance, they look great, private, attractive. I would definitely stay here again and look forward to returning....
