Café-Bar Marktschenke — Restaurant in Tübingen

Location is great, coffee (flat white) was fine. Staff immediately spoke English when I ordered in German, which I suppose is to be inclusive (?) but it came off as “I can tell you aren’t a native German speaker”. And that’s all fine, but what was strike off putting is that the place was full inside except for one table, and when I went to sit for my coffee they asked if I could find a single seat to allow three or more people to use this. The only alternative was outside in the freezing winter cold at tables with three seats. It made no sense why they would ask me to take what they must have considered the least preferable seat so that others could sit inside. It’s a nice place in the corner of the market square with a relaxing atmosphere. Overall it was good but the servers were a bit negligent.

The drinks were pretty good but the service was extremely slow! Even when there were only 6 parties outside, we weren’t even given menus - we had to instead go in and get them. After waiting around (approximately 20 minutes since arriving), we went inside to order since no server had come to us. Es war eine Empfehlung herzukommen. Ein Besuch lohnt sich. Ein kleines Restaurant mit Speisen, die begeistern. Für ein Frühstück, Brunch oder Kaffee/Kuchen ideal. Es ist nicht ganz preiswert, dafür aber hochwertig. Wir hatten Cappucino, frisch gepressten Orangensaft, Frühlingslimo, das Bircher-Müsli und ein Acocado-Brot. Später gab es zwei Stücke Kuchen: Maracuja-Cheesecake sowie Karottenkuchen mit Beeren und Frosting. Alles super lecker!!! Der Service war stets freundlich. Am besten bereits bei Öffnung kommen. Eine Stunde später ist kaum noch ein Platz frei. Reservieren geht nicht. Alles in allem top 👍🏻

It was a recommendation to come here. A visit is worth it. A small restaurant with food that inspires. Ideal for breakfast, brunch or coffee/cake. It is not quite inexpensive, but high quality. We had cappuccino, freshly squeezed orange juice, spring soda, the Bircher muesli and an Acocado bread. Later there were two pieces of cake: passion fruit cheesecake and carrot cake with berries and frosting. Everything super delicious!!! The service was always friendly.
