It was an adventure driving down a pedestrian way to get to the Aika Cafe to check in. Using the 'walk' feature on Google Maps helped. The room (housed in another building nearby) had nice touches like a little bottle of fresh milk for coffee. It was spacious and had wonderful views over the harbour. There were some strange things like no light bulbs in the bedside lamps and no bedside tables. The lighting in the bathroom was institutional and housed the only tiny mirror in the entire suite. The safe was on the floor making access a little awkward. We booked this hotel as it advertised having AC, an important consideration given the ongoing hot weather. Our room as it turned out had no AC and the suite was very, very hot. There were no other vacancies which was too bad because the rooms on the first floor had AC but not the second floor where we were. The manager was genuinely concerned that we would not sleep well, got us an extra fan, reduced the price of the room and offered us a meal at the cafe. We really appreciated his concern. He explained that our suite was newly acquired by Aika and had not been fully prepared for guests. The cafe served delicious food and the breakfast offered an assortment of cheeses, spreads, smoked salmon and breads. Eggs were cooked to order. The place has a lot of potential with a manager who did his best to make our stay as comfortable as possible despite the lack of AC. We recommend Aika as a lovely...
Read moreOur short trip to theAika revealed a true jewel at the Lake of Constance. While it's not a traditional hotel but rather a exceptionally tasty Café with modern rooms in an all-glass building situated nearby, we enjoyed an incredible stay. Beautiful location, very dedicated staff and a small but absolutely classy breakfast really made our day - and night. We've been upgraded from luxury double to a suite and enjoyed a terrific view and modern interiors with full kitchen equipment (except pans and cleaning tools) and a nicely decorated living room. There were even board games for kids. A nice, windowed balcony kept away noises from the promenade. The breakfast was a bliss: bit of cheese, salami, salmon, marmelade, white and dark bread, plus a very tasty smoothie and eggs on special yet free order. Absolutely magnificent and a promising start into the day! We would have enjoyed the Aika Café even more but it closes at 7 PM. It's all very fresh and tasty and comes at a great diversity.|Everything was clean and showed that they wanted us to feel welcomed. The staff is extremely friendly, and to kids, too. (Thanks for the ice cream!) We will come back. Other establishments could learn a lot from the Aika.|It really stands out, especially at the lake promenade where gastronomical levels are mediocre and very pricey. and customers are regarded as a nuisance. The Aika proves...
Read moreOurs was a very large deluxe room overlooking Lake Constance. The room is very modern and includes two love seats and two small desks, plus a coffee bar and large flat panel TV. Furniture is not especially comfy but the amount of open space makes up for that. One wall is entirely floor to ceiling windows. Bathroom is modern with both tub and shower. Beds are two adjacent twins work separate duvets, German style sleeping. Air conditions is adequate but not up to US standards. The suites do not have air conditioning . They have a small kitchen but absolutely no utensils of any kind. The suite does include a dining table and the bedroom is separate from the sitting area. Furnishings are the same. There are also bedrooms with out sitting area. All rooms share this fabulous view. We arrived by ferry from Romanshorn, Switzerland. Boats servicing the lake dock extremely close by. Check in is at a nearby cafe called Aika Cafe. A table near the rear of the Cafe has a sign posted during check in hours. The address of the Cafe is on Karlstrasse but it helps to know the the Cafe also opens on the promanade along the water. This entrance is easier to find. There is no hotel lobby. Rooms are entered from Salzgasse, around the corner from the waterfront and are in the large glass building next...
