Hidden Gem in Coventry What an amazing experience we had at GR Bucket Biryani, Coventry. We are a small group of 4 been for our lunch there. It is a small restaurant with simple decoration, with an authentic touch in its wall frame. The atmosphere was great, sit near the window and watch the busy road on your side while you were waiting for your meal. The food came at the right time. It has been served in a correct course manner. When looking at the menu, it has a real feel to it like Mughal’s or Hyderabadi Palace’s window pattern. It may look small, but it has all the required dishes for all sorts of Indian lovers. GR Bucket Biryani doesn’t have a boring menu with more than 100 items, and repeated name of the dishes varies with protein incorporation. We ordered and found some interesting items on the menu which we wanted to try this afternoon. We ordered our food to a young waiter who dealt with us all the time with a pleasant smile on his face. First, we had our CHILLI SQUID to start – The Squid was cooked perfectly and coated nicely with a spicy sauce and pepper. As soon as we finished the squid, we had our Lamb Paya, Malabar Parotta & Botti fry – WoW! What an amazing combo. A soft, flaky, large-size MALABAR PAROTTA with a medium-hot LAMB PAYA and spicy stir-fried BOOTI FRY. I should talk about the Paya and the Botti fry. I have never had them like this here in the UK. Both dishes are the same as those I had in India. They were both tender, balanced in spice, and very tasty. How do I forget to say about our Icing on the Cake, which is GR Bucket Biryani’s Lollipop Biryani and the Traditional South Indian Seeragasamba Lamb Biryani. LOLLIPOP BIRYANI – It is a fusion style of biryani favourite among young kids. It is a fancy lollipop-shaped chicken which has its flavoured until the last bite. These lollipops were blended nicely into a biryani with basmati rice served with Raita, which was wonderful. SEERAGA SAMBA LAMB BIRYANI – This is the one dish I wanted to price more core to the authenticity. A very tender lamb biryani made with a unique flavoured seeragasamba rice. I go back there to taste their other variety of Biryani. Each one of them has a different flavour & style of cooking. We finished our meal with Gulab Jamun, a soft dumpling immersed in a flavoured syrup At the end, we came to the cost of our visit. We were four and had a bill of around £60, which was quite a surprising amount for me. I was expecting to be more than £80. The reason behind it all the food we had was in very big portions. If you go with your family, you can order various dishes that fit your low budget needs. So, all I can say the People around Coventry, Students from Coventry and Warwick University, I found a hidden gem for you. Read moreStepping into GR Bucket Biriyani is like being instantly transported back to the vibrant streets of India. The atmosphere is warm, lively, and filled with the aromatic spices that promise a truly authentic culinary experience. It's more than just a restaurant; it's a nostalgic journey for anyone who misses the feeling of home-cooked Indian food.
The heart of the menu is, of course, the biryani, and the Madurai Mutton Biryani is an absolute masterpiece. The mutton is incredibly tender, falling off the bone with the gentlest touch, and the rice is perfectly cooked, each grain infused with a complex blend of spices that are both bold and comforting. It's a rich, flavourful dish that truly stands out and feels genuinely true to its Madurai roots.
Beyond the mutton, the entire biryani selection is a testament to the kitchen's skill. From the fragrant Chicken Biryani to the unique flavours of the other varieties, there's something to satisfy every craving. And you absolutely cannot miss the starters. Both the classic Chicken 65 and the fiery Andhra Chicken 65 are must-tries. The Chicken 65 is wonderfully crispy on the outside and juicy within, while the Andhra version delivers a sensational kick of heat that will delight spice lovers. They are the perfect appetizers to get your taste buds ready for the main course.

Read moreI recently had the unfortunate experience of ordering from Bucket Biryani, and I must say, it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've encountered in a while. While I had high hopes based on their enticing menu, the service was so slow that it completely overshadowed any potential enjoyment of the meal.
I placed an online order, eagerly anticipating a delicious biryani. The estimated wait time was roughly 30 minutes, which I thought was reasonable. However, after 1.5 hours of waiting, my patience wore thin. I understood that restaurants can get busy, but such an extensive delay with no communication or updates was both frustrating and unacceptable.
When I finally received my order, the excitement I had built up during the long wait quickly vanished. Though it’s important to note that the biryani itself was decent, the long wait significantly dampened my appetite. It’s hard to enjoy a meal when you’re left wondering if your order was ever going to arrive.
Additionally, when I attempted to reach out to the restaurant for an update on my order, I was met with unhelpful responses that only added to my irritation. Good customer service is essential, especially in food delivery, and unfortunately, I felt completely neglected.
To sum it up, Bucket Biryani might have potential in terms of the food itself, but if they don’t improve their service and communication, I cannot recommend this restaurant. Waiting for such an extended period without any feedback or apology, and being left hanging, left a very sour taste in my mouth. Until they address these issues, I won’t...
