Visited on Wednesday 28th July with my partner and child, I usually travel out to Birmingham chaiiwala so was very excited to hear there’s going to be one in my home city of Coventry.
Upon arrival the shop was busy as anticipated for a new opening, as soon as we walked in unfortunately there was a big waft of odour only recognisable as B.O which was unpleasant, this could’ve easily been eliminated should the staff had put on the Air con or opened the front door, we ordered a large chai latte, Nutella wrap & so called “Chai Malala chocolate mousse”, I’ll start with the wait time, we waited 20 minutes for a cup of tea, a Nutella wrap & a chocolate “mousse” which needed no prep as it was a cold counter item, 20 minutes for such an easy order is questionable not would leave any customer satisfied, secondly the horrendous apparently so “mousse” was dense, not light and airy at all how a mousse should be nor tasted like chai masala at all, I think which ever manager or member of staff suggested this item on the menu needs to look up the definition of mousse then try their product, The £3.50 price tag is overpriced & I would’ve much rather had a mousse from a supermarket because i would receive what’s described, the Nutella wrap was underwhelming, dry and smelt like savoury curry items, this would be due to the Paratha being around curry/savoury items in their kitchen, very unpleasant and tight on Nutella as it was very very dry to eat, to top all of this off we witnessed a member of the kitchen team whack the excess food off a cooking spoon on the bin and then proceed to cook with it, this is shocking practise & hygiene, the kitchen bin is in clear sight of customers at the front desk which isn’t appealing to the eye, overall I’m disappointed as me and my family were excited to welcome chaiiwala to Coventry & be regulars, not only that but should I had a good experience I wanted to share to my social media followers as I’m a professional chef myself having been on MasterChef the professionals (Burhan Ahmed) and as my followers are foodies I could’ve guaranteed more business for them, first time and last time...

To start with, the cleanliness of the store wasn’t up to the Chaywala standards. All the tables were dirty and we had to clean them before sitting. Also, we came across the worst server in my life this evening. The receipt says her name is Shabbir. The lady didn’t greet us at the till, not even bothered to smile. We finished ordering as soon as possible as she was making us uncomfortable. She didn’t like my kids and giving them angry look. When I requested for a straw she pointed me to the station where some bubble tea/ smoothie/ milk shake straws were kept. I requested, if she has a drinking straw that is suitable for J2O and my little one can comfortably drink with. Her reply was “this are the only straws we have, you take it or leave it. “ I wasn’t unhappy with the straws but not happy the way she handled the situation.
As me and my friends were busy talking, my tea gone cold. So I went back to the till and requested her to warm up the tea. She refused and become very defensive. Her reply was “ the guys are cleaning the kitchen and I can’t warm it up now” . I found it very unreasonable. The lady ruined our evening what we have been looking forward to as I met my friend after a long time. I think it’s not just her fault, it’s all about the ethos and culture...
Read moreMy friends and I went to Chaiwalla in the afternoon and the customer service was not very good to be honest and we went to place an order and she went away and she took out half order and ignored us and in between a lady came and she was waiting for the coffee for 40 minutes over all the customer service was very bad and all staff was chilling at the back no one was coming out for taking orders, tables were not clean and unhygienic in nature they even was not spraying the tables We saw that she was wearing the same glove for cleaning the tables and creating the food in the rear one of your employees named SANA did not give us a nice greeting and was not even smiling and was extremely unpleasant and for order 141 she did not even give us a tray and gave us in bare hands.
