Εστιατόριο - Ψησταριά "Το Κάστρο" — Restaurant in Alonnisos Municipality

I tried ordering their grilled pork specialty but they didn’t have it, so I ordered the sausage and an appetizer instead. 45 minutes later they still hadn’t brought anything (it was also getting cold, as it’s on a cliff). They then came by to say they didn’t have any sausage (but still didn’t bring the appetizer). They asked if I wanted anything else but honestly I just wanted to get out of there because it was so cold, so I said no, just the appetizer is fine. It still took them 15 minutes more to bring the appetizer (which was just grilled vegetables), so I figured the server probably just didn’t put the ticket in. They didn’t really seem apologetic or try to make up for it in any way (also the app ended up being 50 cents more on the bill than on the menu, which obviously isn’t a big deal, but it didn’t help the frustration in the moment). I was just confused because I was literally the only person on the balcony area, so it’s not like they were super busy, and the servers were talking below in the restaurant area most of the time - they definitely could have let me know far sooner or at least comp me the bread or something. Definitely the best restaurant in Hora/χορα! For appetizers we had the dolmades which were made perfectly. The grape leaves were so fresh and not at all over oiled. Fantastic flavor especially with the yogurt on it. We also had the stuffed eggplant with feta. A warm dish which melts in your mouth, bursting with flavor. My wife had the stuffed keftades with feta & tomato, which was tender, juicy and well composed. I had the grilled squid (kalamari - not stuffed) which was cooked to perfection and deliciously fresh. To top it all off, dinner included a small gout of dessert which tasted like a lemon custard with a garnish of graham cracker or something like that. Absolutely amazing and refreshing. Lamb chops - terrible. Bad meat, badly cooked. Kleftiko - good taste but dry (a sin in Greece!!!). Lamb kontosouvli - ok. Pork kontosouvli - dry (!!!) 🤦‍♂️ Chips - good taste (maybe cooked in animal fat 👌🏼), maybe a little soft. Green salad - terrible, like it was prepared yesterday. Aubergine rolls with feta - good. Aubergine salad - good. Tirokafteri - ok. Kastro saganaki - the signature dish. Cheese dowsed in metaxa and lit for a fiery show. Good.

Service was mostly good - attentive, helpful staff, if a little rushed.

Atmosphere not nice. Boss shouting at staff - in no way necessary. Big competition with neighbouring (opposite) restaurant which is just across the street adding to bad vibe.
