We came here last year and absolutely loved it! A friendly welcome and amazing food... They'd only just opened and were telling us how they were planning to transform it. Fast forward 365 days, and we were genuinely sad.
We arrived and there was nobody around, a tray of dirty plates on one table and a pair of boots by the door to the bar. I walked in and called out, nothing . But they were definitely open. There appeared to be a couple of young staff members at the pool area (now open as accommodation, which they weren't last year when we went) and they saw us and ignored us. Another couple arrived and sat down, as did we. Eventually one of the boys came into the dining area and gave us a menu, then sprinted off barefoot back to the pool. No asking if we needed drinks etc which is customary in most tavernas. We waited. And waited. And waited. The other couple (just arrived, no car, didn't know the area) were giving us 'what's happening?!' looks, and finally we had had enough. I went to the other couple and asked if they'd like a lift into Svoronata to eat at our favourite little place, La Tavolata, and so we ditched and went to the car. As we got there the boy who 'served' us, was with a friend out the front watching a police van pull up. They ignored us as we drove off . All I can say is that I'm sorry, because the adult staff here were great last year, but putting a kid in charge (if he even was) was a bad move! Perhaps just a little more focus on walk-in diners rather than just in house pool side guests? Shame as we were really looking forward to...
Read moreWhat a rollercoaster of a stay at this resort in Kefalonia! 🎢 From the moment we landed (and by the way, the resort is so close to the airport that I think our luggage arrived before we did), to the heartfelt goodbye, it was a wild adventure.
🏊♂️ The pool turned us into a synchronized swimming duo, though I don't think the Olympics are ready for us.
🍽️ The restaurant? It's a culinary masterpiece. I'd like to meet the chef just to say, "You, sir, are my new foodie hero."
🍸 The bar, well, let's just say that our attempts at mixology turned out to be a comedy show, but the bartender was a great sport.
☕ The coffee place? I could write poetry about their cappuccinos, but I don't think anyone's ready for that level of caffeine-induced art.
🛌 The extra bedroom? It was like finding money in your old jeans – unexpected, exciting, and definitely appreciated.
🌍 And the host? More like our personal tour guide. We followed their recommendations like we were on a treasure hunt. We even found hidden gems!
🐶 Mia, the dog, was our surprise vacation buddy. We might have taken more pictures of her than of ourselves. Sorry, not sorry.
In the end, it was like living in a quirky travel sitcom, and we loved every hilarious moment. If you're looking for adventure, great food, and a generous dose of laughter, this resort is the place...
Read moreWe came to dine here twice during our stay and can say it was the highlight of our trip. The outside dining area by the pool is absolutely beautiful for watching the sunset. The food is impeccable - I highly recommend the lamb kleftiko.
The best part about Avra was the service. The owner’s younger son had a long conversation with us about life on the island and gave us advice. We had the same waitress both nights and she was so lovely. The second night we got caught in the rain walking on the way there and she offered us towels and dry shirts. She always offered a smile and warm conversation.
It was still pouring when we were about to leave so they insisted that they would drive us back to our accommodation. The owner’s older son Nikolas drove us back in the bad weather and we honestly could not thank him and the whole team at Avra enough.
Avra is the most warm and friendly service we have ever experienced. We were treated exceptionally well by every person we encountered and coupled with the amazing food, coming here is a must...
