So, I ordered a double espresso with milk. It was a truly unique experience. I couldn't find the milk even with a jeweller's eye, and I really hope the staff just forgot to put it in because if they didn't then everything else will sound a lot worse. So, the texture of the "coffee" was that of dark powder inside a brown liquid with a taste more bitter than that time I ate an actual coffee bean. It was as if someone ground the ashes of their dead grandma to fine dust and served them as a drink to me. It was so bitter that amoxil feels sweet by comparison. Compared to the antibiotic though, the coffee had this constant annoying feeling of powder grains that simply refused to be washed out by more coffee or water. They instead kept accumulating to the point I felt as if my tongue was being colonised by a coffee bean version of Columbus. Needless to say I said no to colonialism and refused to drink the rest of the coffee, which by that point looked like a dark viscous liquid that one would think it came either out of an oil field or...
Read moreI was worried coming to Kefalonia that I wouldn’t find a good cup of coffee anywhere in the island. All that went away with my first sip of an espresso at Ristretto in Kefalonia capital Argostoli. They roast their beans on site. the machine is open to watch. A great feature. The smell of coffee in the air is amazing as you tuck in your morning restorative. I only had a croissant to eat with my drink but it was delicious. I saw the waiters bring out other food that looked equally tempting. The venue itself is quirky in a good way. We sat right outside the bar on the street side. But over the road you could sit in the cafe seats by the sea and watch the famous Argostoli turtles and boats float by. The toilets were clean and kept to a high standard. Kinda important for any cafe in my book. The cafe was so good we went back....
Read moreWe came here for brunch and had to wait a really long time before our order was taken. To be fair, the staff do try their best, but with literally every table occupied, it’s just way too many guests for the number of waiters
We saw a couple in front of us barely touch their food, and honestly, if I hadn’t been so hungry, I probably wouldn’t have eaten mine either. My omelette was terribly dry, with barely any feta or tomatoes.
I also ordered pancakes with honey on the side, but they brought them already covered in honey, the pancakes ended up being the tastiest thing we ordered.
As for the coffee, honestly don’t even want to comment. Yes, it’s not specialty coffee, but how can anyone call this the best coffee on the island? It was bitter, over-roasted, and instead of oat milk they served some kind of...
