Master Indian Chef — Restaurant in Athens

Not our cup of tea We have eaten Indian food in different countries and in other Indian restaurants in Athens. So we have a general idea about Indian food. Our delivery order from Master Indian Chef unfortunately did not meet our expectations. Positive: The person on the phone taking the order was very friendly also the delivery person.We received complimentary sweets. The quantity was good/very good. The food arrived hot and in good condition. Okayish: The Aloo Gobi, Paneer Pakora,Chapati, Indian Souvlaki with Chicken Tikka and chicken soup were edible and okay. Nothing to write home about though. Negative: 1. The dishes we had asked to be spicy were bland, therefore those that we ordered mild, so spicy, that this was a problem.2. The Palak Paneer was in fact so spicy, that it was inedible for the person that ordered it. 3.The Dahi Papdi Chaat tasted like an Indian version of a Russian salad. It had furthermore a very strong unpleasant egg taste. 4. The naan was hard and not fluffy at all. 5. The accompanying mint dip tasted like mayonnaise with mint overload. It had nothing of the joghurt freshness Indian mint dips usually have. Neutral: Keep in mind the main courses do not include rice, you have to order it separately. I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The food was delicious (biriyani and samosa) and the service was impeccable. I gave 50 euros to the delivery person, but he didn't have change, so he asked me to keep the food and informed me that he would come to collect the money later. I was shocked by his reaction. They trusted me enough to hand over the food even though they didn't get the payment for it. I appreciated their act of kindness. The staff were friendly and humble, and they treated me with respect. I invited my family for a nice Saturday evening, as I enjoy Indian cuisine and have appreciated many good Indian restaurants, mainly in Northern Europe. However, our experience was very disappointing. The atmosphere was mediocre and there was an unpleasant smell in the room. Despite the very friendly service, the food was terrible. The sauces, which were also mediocre, could not mask the extremely bad taste of the meat. If you appreciate tasty food, I would advise avoiding this restaurant.
