Theatre located in Filopappou Hill near Acropolis and the Parthenon. It is dedicated to famous actor and choreographer Dora Stratou. It’s a theatre inside a tiny but beautiful forest of trees. A large parking is also available but you better be there quite early :). Greek traditional dances are performed by professional and non professional dancers of high dance level. Usually there are more than one live traditional bands, each playing music for different Greek Regions. In our performance there were dances from Epirus, Souli, Samos island, Kasos island, Creta island, Peloponese and Roumeli or Central Greece. Performances are usually begin at 08:30 - 9:00 pm during the summer and they are taking place more than 1 day per week usually Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There is also a dance school where one can be introduced to Greek traditional dances and also begin to learn them. I noticed among the audience families with very young children. Maybe it’s a good introduction to Greek traditional dances for these young children and an inspiring performance may influence their future interests. After the performance one can go on in the nearby neighbourhoods of Koukaki, Acropolis or even Thiseio for a quick drink or a restaurant. You can reach the Dora Stratou theatre by car, trolley, bus and subway. Surely a worth going and a must see performance. Strongly recommended along with a walk in the...

We walked to Dora Stratou Theatre from the heart of Athens, carried by the scents of streets and stories (and guided by technology 😊), and the path led us uphill, where the city stops and the magic begins.
The open-air amphitheater felt like it had been carved out of a dream, with trees placed, as if by an invisible hand, one by one, to embrace the place and guard it from time.
As dusk fell, the place took on a special kind of magic: the scent of the trees, the silent yet present voice of nature, the warm lights wrapping the stage, the dancers and their colorful costumes… Everything came together for a dreamlike experience. An hour and a bit slipped by unnoticed, and honestly, we wished it would never end.
The music, the colors, the sounds, and the energy of the place made us feel like we were part of Greece’s own story and its contagious vibe.
We wished we could have stayed there, for the night to never end.
The shows change every two weeks, always calling you back, like a longing that never truly fades.
When we return to Athens, one thing’s for sure: we’ll be back here, where the story never...
Read moreI wouldn't be proud of this place. For once, it needs a thorough renovation. Urgently! The sun-soaked wooden stage is a real danger for bypassers, as it is accessible and it not flat anymore... Particularly if someone wears slippers, the chance of stumbling hits a high score.
Then, the stage itself...I was staring at the (almost) makeshift roof of the backstage, clearly visible from the stalls... Ugly and worn out, right next to the lovely replicas of ancient pillars and walls, it is a true testament of bad taste and typical work of a public servant who was assigned to build it and who does not even care for aesthetic appearance or even minimum quality of work.
Tidiness and cleaning, both score below zero and all in all, the whole package is a bad remnant of the 80s or 90s at best. The only exception is the location and the green around the stage.
Would revisit? Yes, but... only if the place underwent a...
