We visited Athens for a business trip with my colleagues and the first day in Athens we visited Karminio. We sat outside. It didn't feel too cold to sit outside, wearing a jacket, given that the sitting area is covered and there are some heaters. We ordered food and drinks. All of a sudden I felt a cold shower from my head through my spine and down my body. The waitress had spilled the drinks over me. My only jacket for the trip was soaked. I removed my jacket which made me feel very cold since I was wearing a very thin shirt inside my jacket and it was anyway soaked with cold beer. She didn't apologize, in fact she joked that she didn't only spill beer but also coke. I told the waitress to consider a career change. This infuriated the second (older) waitress who started to angrily shout on top of my head. She told me I should be ashamed and that the (young) waitress is only trying to make a living. She even accused me that I moved and that is why I got the drinks on top of my head. This was not true! I was shocked to be attacked like this. They didn't accept any responsibility. They didn't even try to compensate for the accident by bringing some extra heaters, blanket or something. They took my jacket in to "wash" it and returned it (only more) soaked and still smelling like beer. The older waitress was extremely rude and arrogant. She had no idea how to offer services to guests. The younger waitress had also no manners. I felt that they didn't even care. Of course, given how touristic the area is they will always get new customers. I have never been treated like this before in my life.
When it comes to food quality it was also pretty mediocre food. Moussaka was a mere disappointment. The pork chops were very fatty. We chose this restaurant because of the good reviews in google but the reality was different. I would never go back, it is a tourist...
Read moreYou know when you enter an establishment and the staff that meets you exudes a polite dislike upon seeing you? So far, so good, huh? We ordered some small platters from a waiter that looked like he could be bothered. He later stood close to our table vaping while at work. Guess he just needed a break from the 3 tables that were occupied. The food arrived, and the cheese pita was really good. The falafel was stodgy, and the waiter managed to take away our half empty bowl of yoghurt that was served with the falafel. When I noticed, I had to go in and ask for a new one from a condescending lady at the counter. The fava was just ok and didn't look very appetising, but the pitabread was really good. We had to go in to pay, and I noticed the bill was a bit more than I expected. We walked out, and I had to look at the specifics on the receipt, of which there were none. All that was written were prices and one repeating word in Greek, perhaps meaning item. We had to count how many dishes we had ordered and realised there was something added for 7.50 Euros. Went back to ask, and the lady aloofely said it must have been a mistake that an extra item was put on the bill. With a mearest of apologies, she gave us the money back. I must say that this was not at all what we expected reading all the favourable reviews. When you feel unwelcome and get overcharged, it is not a place you want to visit again. How...
Read moreWe are travelling all the way from Canada and a few days into our Greek adventure. Visited Karminio yesterday early evening with my family and felt compelled to leave a review because it was such a wonderful experience.
First off, the food is amazing and I will have to keep coming back to try as much of the menu as possible. I have 2 small children that are very picky and particular eaters and they both rated this as their best Greek gustatory experience so far. This is good news as I was worried that I was going to have to spend time at a local McDonalds getting kids meals soon (blasphemy when you are in a place like Greece, but parents get desperate sometimes!)
What distinguishes Karminio though is the service, ambience, neighbourhood, and incredible owner. The neighbourhood has a nice relaxed local vibe feel to it. Kiki (owner) is so charming and exudes an incredible energy. I don’t know quite how to describe it but you can tell how much she cares about the restaurant, food quality, and experience for patrons. We were hosted like we were old family popping in for a visit. After dinner, pop across the street for some delicious ice cream!
Thank you for a memorable experience and helping make memories for my family while we are on this once in a...
