We chose to go at this restaurant because we saw several times it was crowded, people even waiting for a table. Also the decor attracted us as we wanted to eat at an authentic Greek tavern. The portions were pretty big and the food was good. For that I would have given 4/5 stars. But the service was awful. The waiter made fun of us for being Romanians. They haven't brought us a portion of the tzatziki we ordered, but fortunately they did not charge for it.
If you go to this restaurant (although I don't recommend it to anyone) refuse the bread and water they bring to your table, otherwise you will be charged heavily, especially for the bread. They put 9.5 euros on our receipt, which I think is for that horrible bread that they put on the table at the beginning. The bread was plain, not even toasted as we saw on other tables. I am not sure if that price if for the bread or not, we were 6 people. They scammed us but it was also my fault that I did not carefully check the “receipt”...
Read moreThe food is good, and the portions are very large; we couldn't finish everything we ordered. From the beginning, they place water and bread with olive oil and garlic on the table, which you find on the bill at the end. The service was quite fast. The prices seemed a bit higher than at other restaurants in the area, and some prices were very disproportionate; for example, the seafood pasta was 55 euros, compared to 16-20 euros just 3 minutes away. Later edit: After trying several restaurants, we found ourselves coming back to Bakalis three times for dinner! The food is outstanding, and everything we tasted was delicious. The portions are huge, so it's best to share with others to avoid waste, though they do offer takeout if needed. For dinner, it's ideal to make a reservation a day in advance to avoid waiting in line for a table. Highly recommend this place for its great food...
Read moreAmazing food but ENORMOUS portion sizes! We read other reviews warning us about the portion sizes- and others were not kidding! The food itself was delicious- some of the best we had whilst staying in the village. We ordered the calamari, Greek salad and then our waiter recommended a side of a mix of fried courgettes/ chips. The fried courgettes were to die for- so thin and crispy. The reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 was simply because of the amount of food from ourselves, and others, went to waste. We were overwhelmed how large each plate was when it came out. We were warned by our waiter too- but our meal could’ve easily served a large family, rather than just two adults. Order less, and you’ll enjoy it all the more. We were able to take some back with us, the staff were happy to give us takeaway boxes and bags...
