Best restaurant in crete!
This nice little place is one of the best greek restaurants we ever eaten. We where three times and we always had an amazing time.
For starters you get olives and a little portion of potatoe/noodle salad The menu is not that big, about 15 items but it has a good variety of meat and vegetarian dishes. You can order the meat dishes in items, so you can exactly say how much food you want.
First they bring the cold food and then the warm, wich always comes with bread (what you have to pay but for very low cost). Every item comes on its own plate and you just take on your plate what you want and eat from it.
The wine card has a variety of about 10 different wines, wich all come from the crete region.
When you ask for the bill, they give you first raki, yogurt and the best chocolate cake we ever had (cake only if still available) on the house.
The staff is very very friendly and are doing a little chat with you even if the restaurant is completly full (wich can be about 80 people).
Sometimes you need to have a little bit of patience becaue the team is not so big, we always saw 4-5 guys working, so please have some respect for that.
When the owner has time he comes to your table and tells you very proudly about the restaurant wich his parents are now handling and his grandfather build up.
I would highly reccomend eating there and enjoing the...
Read moreWords truly can’t describe our experience at Cafenio Gipas. It was recommended to us by the receptionist at our hotel, and what a blessing that was! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Konstantinos, who greeted us with the biggest smile and immediately made us feel like part of the family.
He told us the story of the restaurant it has been in the hands of his partners and their family for generations, and you can feel that deep sense of history and pride in every detail. Konstantinos took the time to chat with us, explain the dishes, and kept surprising us with typical Greek delicacies to try. Every single bite was bursting with authentic flavor from the freshly prepared dishes to the incredible wine, everything was simply divine. We’re still in a bit of a trance thinking about it.
The terrace had a lovely breeze, the atmosphere was peaceful and warm, with local families chatting, laughing, and enjoying their meals. We ended up staying for hours, drinking, eating, and just soaking in the magical ambiance.
This wasn’t just dinner it was one of the best memories we’ve made during our time in Crete. If you have the chance to go, do not miss it. Cafenio Gipas is a place where you’ll be treated not just like a guest, but like family - with kindness, generosity, and...
Read moreI had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. When I tried to order individual pieces of souvlaki from the menu, the waiter cut me off and insisted on bringing a platter for our group, without letting me finish my order or explain how much we wanted. The platter ended up being WAY too much food for three people—far more than we needed or would have ordered if we’d been allowed to choose ourselves.
When we brought this up with the owner, it turned into an argument, and it became clear that they were trying to push a larger, more expensive option without being transparent about the portions or price. After the dispute, they ended up offering the food for free, which makes me think they knew they were in the wrong.
This felt like a clear upselling scam, and I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you’re prepared to fight for what you actually want to order. Be very careful and make sure to clarify portions and prices before agreeing...
