Tonight we have done something that we've probably not done before and that's eat at the same restaurant whilst on the same holiday, in fact the second time in 5 days, so our first review is below and starts Really enjoyed our visit...whilst our second review is very much the same as the first. Walk to the top of the main area in Chora, past the windmills, through the pedestrian area and up to the right, continue past the town hall and then you will find Barbarossa tucked in on your right hand side. Well worth the extra few metres, having eaten at one of the restaurants in the pedestrian area (which was good don't get me wrong), we enjoyed our secomd visit to Barbarossa as much as our first. We even took a few more photos which hopefully do it justice or are at least better than the first ones. Enjoy. Hopefully you won't be disappointed, we certainly weren't.
Really enjoyed our visit to Barbarossa. Fabulous food & fabulous service. My photos really don't do our evening and our meal justice.
We arrived early at around 7pm when there were only two other people seated. Yet within an hour the restaurant was almost full, mainly with couples enjoying a warm evening in the setting sun.
We started with creamy mushrooms - lovely, nice and creamy with a hint of warming alcohol. Accompanied by fresh bread, water and half a carafe of house white wine. We then opted for two meals to share, a moussaka and goat cooked with potatoes and feta cheese. Both were cooked just right, were very tasty.
We then decided against a desert, preferring to visit a local ice cream or waffle parlour, yet the waiter, who had been helpful all night brought us some orange cake, which was divine. It was moist and the orange peel wasn't over powering, again it was just right. Good value for money too, less than €32 👍
So we had a great evening, the lights and the music gave it a very relaxed and romantic feel, and the service was excellent. The young waiter served everyone very well, promptly and efficiently. I was embarrassed to only leave a small tip. Lovely evening, happy to recommend it when you visit Chora and the island of...
Read moreIn general normal taverna, food was ok, but overpriced. Chicken very dry. They charge extra for sauces, however this is not mentioned in the Menue. Service staff was bored, slow and apathetic. The service staff forgot to forward our order to the kitchen (which may happen) and guest arriving later finished their main course before we got the starter. We had to ask for the starter (we got the Dakos Salad almost 1 hour after we ordered) and then had to ask again for the main course. Don’t expect a “We are sorry” or “apologies for the delay”. Better eat...
Read moreIt was the first restaurant we checked out as soon as we arrived on the island and the guy at the entrance suggested the sea bass which we finally tried a few days later. It was tasty but unfortunately nothing special and a bit cold. The fries were fantastic and the bulk rosé wine also very tasty. The restaurant was full and there was only one person serving which made the service difficult. If I understood correctly it was a family tavern which is not very easy. It definitely needs improvements but the lad is doing great on his own although this...
