Astypalaia's best culinary intricacies. A restaurant standing in a class of its own. Honestly its separate from the typical Greek tavern an yet it manages to recreate traditional dishes into modern cuisine. Astypalaia is a blessed island. Sea food as fresh as it gets. Local lamb in abundance. Hand picked saffron oddly enough indigenous on the island even local potatoes and locally brewed beer :"Katsika" which in Greece means goat. All these ingredients in the hands of Doucato's chef makes for a extraordinary food experience. Make sure to taste goat pie, and fresh potatoes as a side dish. Above all order in advancε seabass cooked inside salt. It takes at least two hours to prepare it properly so make arrangements beforehand. Give a call to Mrs.Popi while making the reservation. This is what we did. My recommendation about what to drink is "Miraval". A rose wine rarely found in Greece. Doucato's staff is up to the highest standards. Always polite and discreet and most of all willing to answer every single detail about your orderings. You can find Ducato easily at the center of "chora" right next to the famous mils (we parked our car at the municipal parking conveniently located just a five...
Read moreIf you’re visiting Astypalaia, Ducato is an absolute must. The food here is truly out of this world – every dish is crafted with care, flavor, and a touch of magic that makes the entire dining experience unforgettable. You have to try the squid risotto – it’s perfectly cooked, bursting with flavor, and showcases the freshness of the sea in every bite. The Agioritio is another standout dish – rich, aromatic, and full of traditional character that captures the soul of Greek cuisine. And don’t even think about skipping dessert! The mpougatsa is , creamy, and comforting, while the cheesecake is light, dreamy, and downright addictive. Each spoonful is pure bliss. Ducato offers a culinary journey you won’t forget. Highly recommended for food lovers looking for something truly special...
Read moreDefinitely one of the upper-end dining options in town and the one on the square of Chora. The staff is very friendly and the ambience welcoming. The menu is not very ample but offers a varied and balanced choice where local fresh produce is key (I literally saw three merchants bringing goods while I was eating). The presentation is appropriate and the food flavorful. Yet, there’s no major, truly remarkable creative twist in what you’re served, despite the attempt to reinterpret traditional cuisine. All things considered, I would still recommend this restaurant anytime for the overall very pleasant experience, the quality of the produce and the skillful handling of the...
