Best greek Kafeneion you can imagine!!

Many small delicious and flawless plates: keftedákia, makaronia with saffron from the island and cheese (try them!) kalamari, shrimps, most of it caught by the owner himself, perfect fava, and, and, and… good housewine, a good selection of beers, also local ones. Music that blends in beautifully with the location of the carefully restored traditional old house in the Chora of Astypálaia. Cozy little places to sit beaded up in the charming alleyways, and generally a place to make you feel so well hosted by the owners and their staff!

(Ratings saying the service is slow or alike, are probably from the very first season of opening when maybe things still had to groove in in the very busy Chora at peak season, I can’t imagine otherwise, anyway the service NOW is definitely most attentive and quick!)

Highly recommended to pay a visit to Apanemia when you are on Astypálaia! And of course we will...

Wonderful restaurant just under the famous castle at the top of Astypalea’s Chora. This restaurant serves a variety of local mezze rather than appetizers and main dishes. After coming here multiple times in 2020 and in June 2023 - I can say that their dishes are truly simplistic yet delicious.

The restaurant is located in a small alleyway, with tables surrounding the sides of the restaurant. Service is impeccable, efficient and quick. Small yogurts with honey and lemon were on the house - a very nice gesture. Looking forward to...

I am a bit surprised about the reviews, but hey, we might have just sat there during a busy time. We had to wait 45 minutes to have the owner take our order(only after we asked him). The rest of the servers just kept passing by to prepare tables for reservation completely ignoring everyone that was already seated. The food was also nothing extraordinary and took another 30min to get served. This place has a prime location though so give it a shot if you like it busy and are going there more for the experience rather...

On the day we visited, it was quite windy (somewhat ironic given the name), yet we were welcomed warmly and made to feel comfortable throughout. Plates feature local-style snacks and light bites, all served with hospitality and care.
