I had fennel pies and gemista. Fennel pies were yummy - very unique. They were ever so slightly dry, and would have been nice with a sauce or perhaps some olive paste. Gemista was good, however despite being marked as vegan, it had yoghurt on the side which they subsequently removed and replaced with fries. Gemista consisted of an aubergine, a tomato and (originally) two green peppers. Garlic bread was also brought out for starters, which was nice although didn’t realise it was not free ! Would have been nice to have known that in advance, we (my parents and I) would have refused it rather than stuffing ourselves silly! 😆.

Read moreThis evening we went out on the main street of Agia Marina to look for a restaurant to have dinner. Our attention was drawn to the Mylonas tavern, a not very large tavern/restaurant, but tastefully decorated, and we decided to enter here. The menu is quite diverse, with Greek specialties, Cretan specialties, grills, pastas, etc. They don't really have too many fish or seafood specialties on the menu, atypical for the area. Anyway, what we ordered was OK, reasonable prices, dessert and brandy on the house at the end of the meal. All in all a positive experience, worth trying. One positive thing to note is that they also have a few parking spaces available, which is quite rare...
Read moreI've been coming to Crete for over 15 years this is my favorite Restaurant, it is a family run restaurant and all the produce is from the family's own farm and it powers through in the taste. It is Cretan authentic cuisine at its peak. The opposite of the often run of the mill balkan restaurants down at the old harbor that often is encased in unwanted soliciting. Here there is none of that. The music is soft and soothing, the setting romantic and memorable. It's outdoors with a natural roof made up of grape vines. I recommend coming here after dusk for the optimal atmosphere. There are many traditional Cretan dishes but especially the grilled menu...
