For two weeks in Agia Marina, Romantza quickly became our go-to spot for both lunch and dinner. This isn't just a taverna; it's a family affair! You'll always be greeted by one of the four brother-owners, ready to chat, share insights about Crete, and help you pick the perfect meal. Their communication is genuinely warm and sincere – it feels less like a service and more like visiting old friends. The grilled dishes here are incredible, with meat so fresh it comes directly from the family's farm. The vegetables and cheese are equally fresh and delicious. We especially recommend trying their cheese pies served with honey – they're a must-have! Even our kids, who can be picky, loved their pizza. And the best part? The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the fantastic quality of the food and the wonderful service. Every meal at Romantza ends with complimentary watermelon and a taste of their honey rakia, a delightful touch. While lunch offers more free tables, evenings can get quite busy. But that's not all, the prices are very reasonable, and the best thing of all is the kindness, friendliness, helpfulness and sense of humour of the staff, 'cause they can make you really feel at home, and part of their big family, where you can tell they really love each other and their job, and their clients as well. We went there three times in our (too) short week in Crete, and we felt like we had friends away from home. We still refer to them as "i nostri amici", our friends, even now we're back. We surely hope to be back in Crete, and next time for at least 10 days; in the meantime, if you read this long review, we want to tell you we're sure your parents you told us about are proud of you, because we as clients won't ever forget...

The chef stood in the kitchen smoking cigarette over the grill, not very appetising. The carbonara tasted like microwave food completely drenched in water. I'm far from a good cook myself, but even I can make this better. When they are chefs, this should be a liiiiitle better than my cooking. I'm usually far from picky, but this time to help others, I'm writing a review. And we also ordered souvlaki, which could have been better seasoned and fried even at a campsite with a primus. Which would probably take...
