Why people might didn't like it or had bad experiences:
Some people just simply don't like the presentation of the restaurant because of its costumes and theatrical behaviour. But we didn't mind.
Here is a small tip for future guests: We went here for two evenings. Both time we arrived at 7pm. By this time we were one of the first customers. I guess, therefore we were served quicker than other guests who came in later when it was full house.
Around 8 pm a lot of customers get in almost at once. Of course the kitchen will be a bit under pressure. I used to work at a restaurant as well, so I know how stressful it can be when a sudden storm of customers enter the place. Most of the bad reviews also imply the long waiting time. As far as I can tell, it's because they came during rush hour and they weren't able to be served properly. We also observed it on other tables later the evening. But we were lucky to dine early when the staff had enough time to prepare the food.
Our waiter did recommend us certain dishes but he did not force us to take it. He was nice and always wanted us to feel comfortable and good. He reminded us that we were on vacation, and that he wants us to feel on vacation, which was nice. And the waitresses were very attentive to never leave our glass empty.
The complementary is free - the plate of dips with bread costed us 4 Euros. Generally speaking was the food quite delicious. The avocado stuffed with chicken was the bomb! I loved it so much! I also loved the Dakos very much because of the yummy olive oil they used. The risotto with mushroom was good. My boyfriends beef was very good. Later I had vegetarian Mousaka which is very delicious with lots of vegetable and not so much Bechamel which is good! My Boyfriends deer dish was very delicious, too.. on the first bite. But after a while the sauce becomes quite heavy.
Some customers apparently didn't bother to see the price of their plates before they were surprised by their huge bill. And even if the bill is written in greek, you can still add your dishes together and make out which dish was what, as long as you looked at the price of your dish. So our bill made perfectly sense.
At the end of the evening, they served us both times ice cream with cherry...
Read moreBeautiful view, delicious well presented food, and great service! We were seated upstairs at the front of the restaurant, so had a great view the whole time we were here. All of the food was excellent and presented great too. The Cretan graviera cheese 'saganaki' had a different twist to the usual graviera saganaki most restaurants do, rather than the cheese being encased in filo pastry and sprinkled with sesame seeds and honey, it instead has a sesame seed crust; this combined with the dried fruits and carob honey was the perfect combination. I had the Cretan carbonara which was made with handmade cretan pasta (skioufihta) and syglino (Cretan salted & smoked meat); this was one of the best carbonara's I've tried in Crete, once again having this pasta instead of the usual spaghetti was a nice change, and the meat too (instead of just standard ham, for example). Our waiter was very attentive and friendly, and helped make the whole evening a great...
Read moreThis is the best restaurant for both food and service - the cover of various breads and smoked eggplant was delicious, the shrimp saganaki is full of flavour with large prawns that were cooked to perfection, the stuffed mussels au gratin with smoked salmon in an orange sauce was by far one of the best starters I have ever had and the meatballs were delicious (the 3 cats who also sampled them on the way home thought so too 😻). The lamb chops were cooked to perfection and both the chops and meatballs came with home made chips and roasted vegetables in a balsamic glaze. The carafe of wine was served in a cut glass decanter and to add to the evening there was a birthday (where they kindly shared the cake) and a proposal on the next table (she said yes 😍) - our waiter Aris (and son of the owner) could not have been more attentive (and funny) - we have booked to go back on our last night as it really...
